I wasn't aware that having an opinion required a formal stated reason.
Let me rectify this situation.
I don't want jump because if you can jump anytime / anywhere (like WoW) the world will start to look ridiculous. You'll also have to animate every possible body type doing this ridiculous action and see it every time you look in at this ridiculous world you just created.
I don't want jump because if jump is controlled by trigger points in the environment, like several other FF titles with the "jump" action you will have to program all those points as well as all the aforementioned animations as well as redefine zone barriers in general. This would have been cool if you'd done it before the game is released, but it sounds like a lot of work that I'd rather developers spend making mounts or developing battles or piloting airship - any number of other ways to either get around more easily as well as interact with your environment. Programing jump points would be a frivolous waste of effort.
There you go, mate. I still didn't read the thread and I still agree with it 100%.

It's okayI forgive you.
I like free jumpingIt's not like everyone's going to be hopping around ^O^ Mashing the space bar does get tiring.
Or at least some sort of jumping D: Sliding down cliffs look so unattractive.
But then again, how does jumping look ridiculous? And I didn't create the world <3

If they do implement jumping, perhaps they can think of something like what the devs did for FFX-2, with climbing AND jumping at certain places. The jumping wasn't as...unrealistic...as I thought it would be though it was still a bit high. Still, pugilists jump like...five times their height?....when they use seismic shock or something like that, and I don't see people complaining about that. o.o
But yes, I don't want free-jumping all over the place. At certain areas, yes, it can be implemented, like around ledges, or over pit-holes or empty spots over bridges.

Would a running + jumping system similar to that featured in Blade & Soul be too unrealistic for a game like this one? I'm not suggesting that this is what we need, but although that system is fantasy like, it still isn't ridiculous bunny hopping either.
At any rate, I thought if a jumping system was implemented it was going to just be obstacle related, and not free jumping.
It's too fantasy, e.g High Fantasy. It wouldn't make sense in this game with the current design and it would be them grasping at concepts for the sole purpose of doing so, however Yoshida proved he's smart enough to not make something a priority that isn't important.

I kind of agree that it is sort of against the grain of FFXIV, but to say it's too fantasy sounds strange since Fantasy is in the title. =p
I think having an option show up near obstacles and such would be great. And I know it's a bit much to consider, but if they could get that working on the maps, I wonder if similar obstacles could be in battle as well. NOT free jumping, but prompted jumping.
(Consider the Marlboro fight in the opening movie and all the jumping presented in that. It could be prompted depending on the environment and the mob.)

F*ck Free Jump.
I will only welcome the possibility to jump/fall over cliffs, void spaces and whatever, which could be implemented with an activation when you're near the cliff or by pressing a button near the cliff.

I 100% agree we dont need to jump. Add jumping and all we'll get are 12 year old kids coming over from WoW jumping around everywhere. All jumping does is add immaturity to the game. NO THANKS

What a great reason to not implement jumping. *hugs*
I forgive you.
