Can't wait!
err, what? yes, you can earn gear by playing PvP. Crafters can make it too, obviously. Have you ever been to The Wolve's Den Pier yet? There's a whole bunch of counters there to buy stuff from (but obviously you can't buy anything yet).Wait wait wait....I can't earn gear by participating in PvP and instead have to buy it from a crafter who are already hyper rich
I for one am ecited for it and it's the main thing i'm interested in in 2.1.
You earn PvP points by participating in PvP, and you can use them to buy PvP gear, and PvP specific abilities/traits.Wait wait WAIT, hold on a moment....I can't earn gear by participating in PvP and instead have to buy it from a crafter who are already hyper rich? How am I (as a battle class/non-crafter) going to afford this junk? More and more I hear about this, the less I like.
We get essentially a WoW arena which I might add was really depised by most players yet I have to be super rich to afford to actually do well in it?
No, thank you.
They say they don't want to force PvEers to PvP which is great but how is it acceptable that PvPers have to PvE to get competive gear then? That's not cool.

Well if crafters make comparative gear and pvp gear is held back with weekly caps like mythos currently does then PvP will become pay to win. If not then fine but judging what I see now in game with mythos, I expect this might be the case.
I can already picture a crafter and RMTers rubbing their hands together in glee at the massive profits to come.
"pay to win" means spending real money for an advantage in a game. I guess the PvE in this game is "pay to win" because you can buy gear to use for PvP with Gil. /sarcasm1
Learn what terms actually mean before throwing them around. Some people just look for every excuse to decry PvP. If crafters can't manke anything it just makes them more useless than they already are, and there won't be and PvP-related gear for people to start out with.
Yeah, because 100% of the current player base is CLEARLY doing endgame token grinding and such. Every single player. Let's take it down a notch and say that the majority (51%+) is doing only endgame content. Actually, even that is far from the case. The current endgame population is arguably the minority, especially if you include any players that might be there but still take part in other activities (they're not stupidly limiting themselves to tomes and BC).
I honestly think saying 20% of the entire player population is exclusively doing endgame might be too high of a number. That being said, I think catering to a predicted 15-20% of the player base with PvP makes perfect sense.
It needs to be pointed out though, that just because Yoshi-P feels PvP helps the game, players must realize it doesn't NEED it. It adds a lot of value to the game for many people, but it's not like PvP is its lifeblood. No one would be playing right now if that were true. We're going to inevitably have people who think that PvP is the sole reason the game was made... and some might not even be joking about that.

Judging by all the people buying gil right now and many crafters getting their gil taken away because of them; I rest my case.
Um, how do you know how many people are buying gil? Please, show me your statistics from an accurate source. The percentage of players with gil taken away or getting banned is miniscule compared to the total number of players. The number of people getting in trouble for RMT activity also doesn't indicate the number of buyers, it only indicates the number of gil banks and farmers.
Again you're just grabbing at every straw imaginable to decry something. If you don't like PvP or think it will be contaminated by RMT or whatever, then just don't play it, instead of making up cockamamie nonsense that is both illogical and irrational.

I'm fairly sure SE is not stupid about the gear situation with regards to vendors and crafting. The best gear is going to come from participation and performance. Crafting gear will likely be entry to mid tier (possibly slightly under the best with HQ). Either way, the grand majority of players will not be buying the gear if the prices are too outrageous, and SE will not make players spend months of gametime to obtain entry gear... I mean look at our AF pieces. I expect a few hours of active PvP to obtain enough currency for at least 1 PvP equip.Well if crafters make comparative gear and pvp gear is held back with weekly caps like mythos currently does then PvP will become pay to win. No my problem is they boldy proclaim that PvEers will never have to PvP to get gear/progress and is totally option. Great!
But then they go further pretty much saying a PvPer will have to PvE to buy armor from crafters; it's right there in the OP. Yes, I am sure there will be a token system but there will more than likely be weekly caps JUST LIKE MYTHOs so a PvPer may very likely have to turn to a crafter to be competitive which is something I do not like the looks of. Obviously, judging by the absurb prices crafted items cost now...it's not going to be cheap.
We shall see what happens I guess.
