Unfortunately as many, many, MMORPGs have shown, people will more often then not, use the comment section for childish comments (often to show us that they found a new, creative, way around censored words). And as far as the artists name is concerned, even FFXIV is plagued with a large number of characters with random, often asinine names which I would not want associated with my game play.

This means that I (as the buyer) have to choose to go without, hope that someone more mature is selling the item, or craft/farm it myself which is often enjoyable but not always a viable solution.

Having the ability as the owner of them item, to remove any (imo game breaking/interrupting) user contributed text on a crafted item makes the best argument. In this way those who make legitimate titles/comments on crafted items (and those who enjoy this as part of the game world) can participate, and those who either take it as a joke, or those who would rather not have the text on their item, can choose to remove it. Granted I don't think it should be "free". If you make an additional cost to clearing an items custom name/text/crafter, the majority of people (who probably don't care one way or the other) will just leave it, while those that are passionate about the subject (as I am) can pay the extra (or do the task/quest/whatever) and "clean" the item.

That being said, if you as a crafter have a "good" (as in a name that you might actually find in the world, not IamAfuzzyRabbit or something equally random) and choose to title/comment your crafted works with text that contributes to the game, rather than breaks one out of it, I would have no problem keeping your text on my item. So I do think that (always) clearing a title, like FFXI did, is a bit overkill, but not allowing us to clear it if desired, is just as bad.
