It does seem like there are quite a few. Aether is diffuse when the realm is in balance, but when that balance is broken, the aether can concentrate and form new life. I've still got a theory on the back burner somewhere that primals are thoughtforms - that when beings concentrate the aether of crystals and such to summon forth entities, these concentrations take on the likenesses and personalities of whatever it is you believe that you're conjuring. This would mean that there are infinite forms primals could take - and could also explain away another of my fringe theories - that the Twelve are legendary Allag figures who inspired stories that in turn shape the aether's behavior when conjured. We don't have to look far to see another example of this... which leads me to...

Louisoix confirmed that Moggle isn't a primal. He is a legend that was conjured from the aether as if he was a primal, consistent with the theory above ... but that doesn't mean I'm right. It's just the only thing I can think of so far that connects all the pieces of the puzzle.

    EDIT
Now that I think about it, though, if primals were thoughtforms, then why wouldn't Moggle be considered one? I doubt there would be such a separation if it was convention alone... might need to ponder this one for a while.
