You are dealing with a community that has a high percentage of social recluses. People who have learned there social mannerisms from youtube and 4chan. Dont expect much. Everyone carries there own burdens too, maybe he has beening deal withh is own family issues that they dont listen to him or trust and when you rejected his website it took it personally.
erase duty finder
make people "form their own party" to enter dungeon
release player killing (PK) feature, both in world map and inside dungeon (wat...)
player who died will drop one of their equipment
teach these new bastards how hard and harsh old school mmo's used to be
You answered your own question. What happened to players?
15 years happened.
Back in EQ1 & FFXI, many people were probably still on dial-up internet. Google and its immense database were not as widespread. If you needed help, you asked fellow players in game.
15 years did happen. People do believe they are indeed "veterans" in MMOs. They know what to expect. They know the progression of things. They know what AH is, what RMT is, what end-game is.
Coupled with that, MMO system has changed, & duty finder is another new thing. It being cross-server, you won't see anyone else ever again, so I am guilty because I didn't talk, and neither did the others.
I have gotten used to it now. Not just in FF14, but also in GW2, TERA, SWTOR.
But it doesn't mean I don't miss the good old days, because I do. I wish I could go back and experience it again.

What happened to players? Well, I personally got older, more experienced and eventually... jaded as hell and elitist down to the core.
You stand in something that kills you? Ok, now you know what it does so you don't do it again. I'm cool with that. But why would you stand in it again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again? It still kills you or damages you like it did the thousand times before. Now the healer has to compensate for your lack of... whatever. I personally can't tolerate other people repeating the same mistakes, at all.
I've only played instanced MMOs where a small party works together to achieve a common goal in a closed envinronment (as in, I'm "cancer from WoW"). I'm a tank, fairly competent one at that. I can carry 99.9% of the groups trough the instances with the healer, no matter how much the dps slacks or fucks up, unless it has dps checks. Seeing "that guy", once again making things harder for everyone gets old, very fast.
Then there are the people who come in undergeared and make the run last 2xlonger or impossible to complete. Just because they want the better gear from the harder instance sooner.
So maybe the instances are at fault? They might be a faulty concept for people who like nice things and cookies, but I like them. I don't really see how you could fit a server population of over 1000 anywhere without instances. Not with today's graphics. It's an easy solution to allow bigger server populations. More the merrier.
What happened to people? Games became different: MMOs started to demand more than just time. MMOs also got bigger, a lot bigger and more popular. Playing games with small populations might be an answer. But on the other hand, will a game that has small population be any good? MMOs require a huge investment of time and money to be good. Keeping people hooked using an instance based lootwhoring is the easiest way to keep people subscribed to an MMO. It's also the easiest kind of MMO to make. It's like a drug, you need your fix (that one item!)
duty finder makes getting group too easy . if you get bad group , get another .
back in the day you put in a bit of work to get a group going so you were more tolerant of silly mistakes .
I was fighting Chimera as tank and the healer died and said "you had boss too close to me I couldn't run away "
I mean seriously the healer blames the tank because they couldn't move away from the blue eyes AOE in time lol ?
WoW happened >>
All types of players existed before WoW did. MMO's are just more prevalent now so the number of every kind of player is increased. I have played many games where I enjoyed the game mechanics far more than WoW's. However, WoW is the MMO that created the most fond memories for me. This is entirely due to the players I played with. There were tons of awesome, helpful people in the guilds I joined that helped create countless great memories. Those same type of players are everywhere in this game as well. So many people have distorted nostalgic views on how games/MMOs used to be. There were always players that tried to ruin the game for others. I have met far more helpful players than rude/griefing players so far in FFXIV.

Then consider yourself lucky or not using the df enough lol. In any case he is right it got worse because of wow. (not to blame all the players there, some were nice) but the general culture and it widening the doors for everyone to come enjoy mmos is what did it.
Ill make an example. EQ1. People would train mobs to end zones and shout out about it so that people wouldnt get caught up in a line of death. Sure you had your bad grapes, but that was few and far in between, because if you were an ass, people didnt want to party with you. Try and do stuff like THAT now today and people would use it to grief you to make you get out of "their" zone.
So what happened? Wow did. It changed the mentality of mmos/players (again noting not ALL) in general and now all of a sudden its some kind of "standard".
