Interesting response from all of you.

I'm casual.
I have a girlfriend I go on dates with constantly.
I have friends I hang out with constantly.
I own and run my own business.
I just have extra time to play more often.
Since when were long posts and, I don't know, actually caring about the game the realm of hardcore gamers? I play a decent amount but I'm still not rank 50 in anything. For all intents and purposes I'm heavy casual and yet I still write pretty drawn out stuff and get caught up in debates. :x

"Casual" is just a polite term for "bad at game"
Despite what people here are saying, I don't really see MMOs as hardcore games unless you're a bad player and put an overly excessive amount of time doing things good players can do in less than half the time.
That said, I'd consider myself casual because, like someone else said, I don't like wasting time. However, I do a lot of theorycrafting, planning, and research outside of the game to make sure that every time I spend in game, I am spending at my absolute maximum potential.
People have this misconception that casual = bad and hardcore = good so casual ends up having a bad name and people by default identify as hardcore gamers in an attempt to feel better. Games are no longer designed to be time sinks unless you're into korean mmos so I would say a majority of the players here are casual.
I consider myself casual because I don't do hardcore optimization though I do like to play a lot of hours at a time (4+). Usually I just do a whole slew of stuff...but I don't care about a challenge as long as it's fun. I also like story over "GIVEMEAWESOMEGEARNOW" though they're both cool :P
I'd like a fusion between casual and hardcore though...so the basics of the game are easy but it's much more in-depth than that for the hardcore players out there. Dungeons and companies for hardcore, Behests and NMs for casuals.
EDIT: Also, hardcore is more about taking time to learn all the facets of the game while casual is just jumping on and saying "hey this is fun let's do that." A hardcore player will probably analyze everything about it, such as researching the best way to do it, the fastest, the most accomplishing, etc. Hardcore players are out for deep knowledge and achievement while casuals are out for fun and experience.
