The amount of mental gymnastics going on in this thread is absurd.

I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.
The set of skills optimized for partying is what SE is develping right now. Yes it is my role being defined for me.
Yes a white mage's role is a Healer.

Full circle.
The skill sets are part of a job
I believe that the job will be locked onto the class that gains the rank required to unlock the quest to unlock the job. While playing as a particular job will render you unable to equip certain actions of other classes, you will be compensated with access to exclusive actions,
Are you reading my posts? If you are, you already know the answer I'm about to post.
How's my score?
Your weapon is locked to your class.
Your class (may be) locked to your job.
Your job is locked to a set of skills.
Your set of skills is locked to your role.
I'll try it the other way too.
Your Class is locked to your Weapon.
Your Job is locked to your Class. (Maybe)
Your Skills are locked to your Job. (The skills that were mentioned in the post)
Your Role is locked to your Skills.
Why do you keep using Class and Weapon as if they are two different things?
Anyway if thats how you want it thats fine.
How I'd prefer it is
You Equip your weapon and are identified as being a user of that weapon.
When you level your weapon skill up to the appropriate rank you learn to specialize in a specialized role.
This role is given a name and called your Job (Job and Role are synonyms after all.)
Once you master this Role/Job you are now able to equip any weapon you want and perform the same role as long as your skill with said new weapon is on part with the requirements of the Role.

Like i said earilier, your job may not be locked to your class, or vice versa. Class is still changed by equpping a different weapon, job stays the same.
And the above underline says what i said as well. you will lose access to certain class skills and/or spells, while gaining new ones specific to the job.The job system - that series-defining trademark - will be implemented in FINAL FANTASY XIV (details such as specific jobs TBA). Quests to unlock each job will become available once you have reached a certain rank in the corresponding class.
Rather than being advanced versions of classes, we would like players to think of jobs as specialized playing styles optimized for partying. While playing as a particular job will render you unable to equip certain actions of other classes, you will be compensated with access to exclusive actions, which can be acquired through quests.
In practice, players will find the existing classes effective when playing solo or in certain party setups. Jobs, however, will shine in party situations where specific skill sets are demanded. Now, you didn’t hear this from me, but there are also rumors circulating that quests for obtaining job-exclusive equipment are also in the pipes.
We at the development team are currently hard at work on the job system, and expect to have details to share with you soon.
