Let me help you out. And {Please Be Careful} and read this very very slow so you can comprehend all of it.
Ir's nice that you guys can fit your friends into the FC limit. The fact of the matter is, we come from a rather large community of gamers, many of whom have chosen FF14 to play with their friends and make new friends within in this community. Enough so that we have difficulty fitting into a single FC under the current limits. You may have trouble understanding how a community could get so large, but surely you can understand such a group wanting to play and talk together. That's all were asking for. And frankly, this is 2013, not 1999. A 512 limit for FCs is not very large anymore.
...Or we're an established community that want to play a game together. That could be a possibility too you know. Just sayin.
Do you have the 2 free companies allied to each other?
Everyone thought paid retainers and fantasia would be the end of it.
You were warned.
Cash shop in, TrystWildkey out.
I'm part of a big community too but these limits are probably imposed to make the company page load faster instead of it taking forever. I'm not part of a big FC here but on GW2 we have to have around 2-3 guilds made in order to hold our members together. They probably tried with 1000 but couldn't get the page to load properly or fast enough and probably decided to settle at 512 which is a pretty big number as it is since not every one has near 1000 members.
In the community we come from, people post regularly who were unable to make a character on Excalibur during the creation restrictions or went to play with other friends, and many of them are now posting that it is difficult for them to find groups to do things and are frustrated that they can't find enough people to play with at their level of progression to fully enjoy the game. If you think the point of a large FC is just to "collect" people and is not something that someone would legitimately enjoy and have a better game experience with--and thus be more likely to stay around and pay subscription fees--that says a lot more about your attitude toward the game and your life than it says about us.
I don't understand, we shouldn't have large FCs because a page in GW2 takes longer to load? I don't understand how a techncial detail of GW2 has any bearing on FFXIV.I'm part of a big community too but these limits are probably imposed to make the company page load faster instead of it taking forever. It's probably an upper resource limit with the PS3 as well.I'm part of a big community too but these limits are probably imposed to make the company page load faster instead of it taking forever. It can't hurt to ask for an increase but don't be surprised if the answer is pretty much "sorry it would create too much stress on the severs."
For reference here is the overflow FC for [Please Be Careful], which is the illustriously named [DragonGod KnightKing].
As you can see we are not just asking for an increase to accommodate a small number of players, but are far over the current cap.
It's not possible for me to know how many linkshells we have created for specialized purposes within our two companies, but perhaps allowing us to merge into one larger free company would actually make some of those linkshells unnecessary and remove some additional database clutter.
I would like to know how you manage that size of a community: do you know your members (or remember them), how do you organize events, do you follow their progression?
Coming from a FC where we closed the applications after 30 active members, that seems just completely unmanageable. Not that I have anything against people playing the way they want to play, just curious about what a community like that offers to its members.
I've actully seen your members around, I didn't realize you guys were that big... and I thought I couldn't avoid fellow TKN members with the number we have. o.O
And yeah, we had probelms with the LS limit ourselves which is why we're a FC. I do hope they could buff the numbers for both but I doubt it will happen.
There are some members who participate more actively than others, and are remembered by most members. Others less so, but everyone gets along with very few exceptions. Most events are organized through linkshells for endgame content, or on the forums. Person [x]'s progression isn't really followed, but people like to call out achievements and share in congratulatory japery.
The only management issues are a result of having to be split into multiple FCs. I have a separate account always logged in that I use to relay party invites and dungeon runs across both groups when I can, but it is not optimal. Events aren't always communicated to everyone in both FCs. People in the overflow FC rightfully feel a bit left out. An increase in FC size would be greatly appreciated by all of us
