PS3 CAN Handle any game at 1080, the only reason why theres is only a handful of games on PS3 that are 1080, is because the difficulty of developing for PS3 makes things to expensive, and it's cheaper to develop at 720, then it is at 1080.

don't misunderstand me, i wasn't talking full 1080p games in general, just in the FFXIV instance... from what i gathered from all the beta forum post back when PS3 was introduced into the mix... square wanted the game to run as smoothly as possible on the ps3... so they canned the 1080p 60+fps because of the PS3's lack to render everything correctly at at time. I have a few 1080p games on my ps3, that died actually, but also remember that a lot of the 1080p cutscene goodness in most of those games are pre-rendered movie files... and not to mention some of the "1080p" games are just 720p upscaled.

I'm not docking the ps3 as not capable of many things... nor am I docking it as a non reliable FFXIV platform. i Played to lvl 46 on my main on my PS3 till it died. I only played the PC version for the first part of beta, then switched to ps3 is phase 3 i think.

I'm on pc now because my ps3 is dead, I would link you to the old beta forums, but that is impossible now since they are shut down.

Am sorry but here you go again with bigging up the PS3 yes it is a great console but again it will never compare to a gaming PC just bite the bullet and except it and I love the bit about expense stopping them from running 1080p I mean come on games are made for all resolutions the only thing stopping certain resolutions is hardware FACT you can run games on a PC at 5760*1080p and even bigger do you think theses games cost more to produce for high resolution NO the game was made and the hardware allows what ever resolution it is capable of.

Now lets leave this PS3 is the god of games please and start actually talking about what threads are asking.

I don't think anyone is saying that PS3 is god of all games, but it can be rather annoying to constantly be told that PCs are better and what you're using just isn't good enough. I'd be annoyed too if people were constantly shoving that own my throat.

Also, can I ask you something? Do you know how long it takes to render graphics like those seen in FFXIV or even movies like Disney and Pixar? A *very* long time, like days worth of rendering for even a few seconds. And you think they wouldn't save money by rendering at a 720? Really? Just because some games have and can be made in higher quality doesn't mean all companies are willing to dish out the time and money it would take to do so. And especially for an MMO that they will constantly be upgrading anyway.

I understand the whole "PC is better" thing getting old. I myself prefer console gaming. After all gaming consoles are created and designed with ONE goal in mind... Gaming Entertainment. It's sole purpose is gaming. Although recent consoles have additional features now.
PC's are still multitasking computing machines designed for many different purposes. UNLESS you build a sole GAMING rig, they purpose of the build is usually never GAMING alone. The upcoming STEAM OS and STEAMbox will change this theory though...

After my ps3 died playing this game... i've moved to pc and it can render out high level fates no problem with all effects on. This show the limits of the ps3 because with ALL effects off, the ps3 wouldn't load the enemies in the fates.

But back to the ps3's rendering capabilities. You have to realize that the engine used in FFXIV renders out INGAME cutscenes... They are hardly pre-rendered. PIXAR films and such are pre-rendered. Thus the PS3's ability to play 1080p footage and cutscenes that are pre-rendered. BUT because most of the action and scenes in FFXIV are INGAME engine rendered... the processor and everything has to render it in real time... with cutscenes this isn't too much of a problem, but add 30+players' characters, effects, enemies, and server info on what each needs to be doing.... it taxes the PS3 greatly... to the point where the DEVs decided a 720p @ 30FPS lock would benefit the ps3. Most of your gameplay isn't pre-rendered... that is the issue.

Fully agree, PS3 is capable of full 1080p graphics it simply comes down to the studios. This game however is supposed to come available for the PS4 so anxious on what they will do for it. Higher res graphics i would hope

Lolz. No..it's not capable of it. Technically it is, if you dumbed down the graphics to a abysmal level, but that would be playing semantics.
There is no modern game the PS3 can run at 1080p, with out neutering the graphics horribly.

(from last post) A good PC's SPECS WILL ALWAYS be better, but there are people that just like CONSOLE GAMING. It's a different mindset and no reason to hate on it like we are stupid. PC Gamers are not the SAME as CONSOLE Gamers. I just don't understand why there is such a PC elitist mindset that they GAME better or console are stupid. I play both. Simple. I don't hate. As for the SSD, i'm not telling them to get the latest and greatest SATA3... a cheap one like http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Digit.../dp/B00A1ZTZOG would be a better upgrade from say a 40GB PS3. Significantly increasing LOAD TIMES... I'm not saying that it will Affect the ingame rendering. Don't misunderstand me.

First off, a gamer is a gamer. I don't care what system it's on if it's awesome. SO that whole "not the SAME" thing there...I don't follow. 9/10 games are available on both PC and consoles, and the PC version is always FAR superior.
And don't give me that I prefer to play on my couch bit, cuz there's nothing stopping you from piping your pc game to your tv by hdmi and using a controller unless you're way behind in tech and don't have that option.

I have very few friends that would disconnect their gaming rig to lan party over someones house. A few laptop users will, but they always get crap from the desktop friends for using a "gaming" laptop instead of a tower. I didn't say PC and Console GAMERS weren't GAMERS. Once again miss understood... I said PC and CONSOLE gamers are NOT the same in terms of MINDSET... the proof can be seen in this thread, on this forums, and by personal experience from friends over the years.

I don't think one is better than the other... I deem them as just two different preferences... Like I said the game I (<once again keyword) PREFER to play are usually offered on the console. Some Final Fantasy series never released for PC, "Ghostbusters" the video game didn't, etc. Those are games I like to play. Yes many games have PC versions, but even so, I prefer to game them on a console. Resident evil for example... even FPS like BF3.

Tech specs wont lie, PC's can excel, but its preference... (<keyword)
