Thief is just a Subverter and DD. It isn't defined by a weapon. In all Final Fantasy's it can equip at the minimum, Daggers, Swords, Shields, Fist Weapons, and Bows. In FFXI it could equip guns, Throwing Weapons, clubs, and more as well.
I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.
true, but the trademark weapon of thief has always been daggers and regardless of lore, in FFXIV, the weapon makes all of the difference. I thought this was obvious, but apparently not.

I think your still trying to confuse Weapon Classes (What Weapon you equip) with Jobs (What role you play in a fight)
They are not the same things, they are not even on the same level. Thats why Jobs are their own system and Armoury is its own system.
Right now with the Armoury it is up to the player to define their playstyle for their Weapon class. A Thaumaturge can tank in the right circumstances, so can a Marauder, A Lancer, and a Pugilist. They might not be the best at it but they can do it in a pinch.
The Job System lets you unlock a Title (Paladin) that says. "I'm a Tank. Don't worry about what weapon I have equipped, I'll protect you from harm." After that point the weapon no longer matters your Specialized by your Job to be a tank.

look at the end you just want to you your dam fav wep with your role even if the wep make no sense with the role because in ff history each wep had a job bind to it. Even in FFXI samurai was only allow to use bow, polearm,GK that made sense Monk was only allow to use hand to hand and some type of staff which look like a pole lol that what made sense for Monk. allowing a monk to use a sword does not make sense. it not a matter of not allowing you to use w/e wep is the matter it make no sense it look dumb that a monk using polearm or sword or a great axeI think your still trying to confuse Weapon Classes (What Weapon you equip) with Jobs (What role you play in a fight)

The look of Monk WS would look best using hand to hand with a great axe it make no sense lol it just does not feel right that you can be a monk and using a sword or other type of wep that monk really don't use in FF history.

Not true. Samurai could also equip certain shields, katanas, and swords. Which is the point Cairdeas is trying to say(He/she is just having trouble trying to make some of you understand). The Job system should be made, so that multiple weapons can be use, by whatever Job you have chosen to be at that moment. But, its up to SE to put the Job names to each specific weapon. I know they won't let you equip every single weapon for every Job, that's just silly. But defiantly there will be more than just 1 weapon type to be assigned to each Job.look at the end you just want to you your dam fav wep with your role even if the wep make no sense with the role because in ff history each wep had a job bind to it. I believe Monday they are going to give us the armory/weapon class changes, with auto attack, so we can get use to it. Because the whole argument on this post could have been different, if some of us remembered that armor system we have now, is not the same armory system we are going to have when the new Job System is put in.
THM can solo tank certain things, but not everything. Lnc can't tank anything (tried and it doesn't work) Archer can't tank anything. Con can't tank anything. Pug tanks very well (probably better than GLA) MRD is a tank on lower level things, but not NMs. Problem? I understand that there are going to be Jobs that come out, but an Archer (non-tank) should not be allowed to move to a Paladin (tank job). It makes absolutely 0 sense.I think your still trying to confuse Weapon Classes (What Weapon you equip) with Jobs (What role you play in a fight)

Paladins in Past FF's have all be able to use Bows.THM can solo tank certain things, but not everything. Lnc can't tank anything (tried and it doesn't work) Archer can't tank anything. Your point? Paladin wasn't good with a bow, despite being able to use them. Paladin's main 2 weapons were Sword+Shield and staff. Everything else was subpar and essentially useless. In some FF's, black mage could use a sword....but they should never use a sword. Just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD. Stop trying to justify being a gimp.
