Thief is just a Subverter and DD. It isn't defined by a weapon. In all Final Fantasy's it can equip at the minimum, Daggers, Swords, Shields, Fist Weapons, and Bows. In FFXI it could equip guns, Throwing Weapons, clubs, and more as well.
I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.
You can't say what a Lancer is because all it is is a weapon. Its nothing more then "One who uses a Spear" Thats it. If they want to be tanks they should be allowed too once they unlock that playstyle.A PALADIN is a tank, but a LANCER is not. Yes, you tanked using a lance in FFXI, but in FFXI, PALADIN had set skills, traits and stats to tank with really any weapon (Shield being the best, followed by staff). In FFXIV, there is no PALADIN. If you use a lance, you are a LANCER and LANCER is not a tank by any means. You go on with "playstyles," but just because you have a playstyle that you like doesn't make it a good one. An Archer can use GLA skills, but archer is NOT A TANK. Are you really so ignorant that you can't see this?

true, but the trademark weapon of thief has always been daggers and regardless of lore, in FFXIV, the weapon makes all of the difference. I thought this was obvious, but apparently not.
Healer strike is ridiculously foolish and accomplishes nothing
I don't quite understand your position. At one point you say that weapons affect play style and that it's important that any job can use any weapon to facilitate variety. Then you come back and say that's not the case? Putting aside the fact that the job system, as I understand it, is meant to be more rigid, how do you justify giving any job any weapon? Unless you're just trying to promote empty avenues of customization I really don't understand what you're getting at.
Arturia Rivaut - WIPE! - Besaid/Balmung
just FYI to everyone, DRG in FFXI was originally able to equip a shield along with with their lances to be full on tanks (no joke), this was quickly scrapped however.
15 abilities each? what is this... Kindergarten?A jack of all trades WHM... what is this 1989?
yes and you was gimp like hell because PLD does not have a A in that wep Monk. Like samurai can only use GK and polearm and bowwep we was good in all 3 becuase that make sense in real life samurai use bows, polearm and GK only but to do best DMG they have to use GK.I tanked Birds as a Paladin with a Polearm in FFXI.
How are Lancers not tanks? All lancer is is your weapon. Your playstyle defines you as a tank.
Paladin is the Playstyle, It says your a tank, At that point it doesn't matter what weapon you equip you'll ALWAYS be a tank. so you shouldn't be limited to playing TANK with what ever weapon you prefer.
IE Once you equip Paladin you'll always have access to all the skills from the current skills you know that Paladin can use, All the skills paladin gives you on its own. Plus all the bonuses Paladin gives you as a Job. Weapon no longer matters once you unlock the job.
you pretty much want a samurai allow to be use a hand to hand wep that make no sense.
btw even if you allow to use GLD and then put the title Monk on it you be gimp because monk would still be using pug spell and only spell on pug work better at the end if someone saw you doing that they just kick you. they even said they gimping spell so ya pretty.
You should only allow to use wep that make sense to the job. like samurai = polearm, bow,GK

I think some of you are missing the point here, allow me to try and explain:
Say for example MRD at R30 unlocks DRK as a Job. Now DRK as a Job comes with attack bonus, reduced defence and an increase in magic potency for dark magic. It also has it's own skills like Bloodweapon and Souleater. Now I can take my DRK job and place it on the class MRD but what Cairdeas is trying to say is that the Job should not be restricted to just MRD.
I agree with this I do not want DRK to be restricted to using a G. Axe, there would be no harm in allowing you to equip a sword (GLA) and then placing the DRK job on top of it to create a sword wielding DRK. Or when new classes get implemented like G. Sword or War Scythe I should be able to level those up as you do now but place my DRK Job on top of it.
THERE IS NO PLAYSTYLE YOU TWIT!!! Did you even read the letter? There are classes (Lancer, Conjurer, etc) and Jobs (Undefined yet but they will be the trademark jobs such as black mage). I don't know where you get this playstyle bullcrap from, but it isn't happening. A lancer, in FFXIV, IS NOT A TANK. End of story. An Archer, in FFXIV, IS NOT A TANK. Deal or leave. It's not going to happen.
Healer strike is ridiculously foolish and accomplishes nothing
I think your still trying to confuse Weapon Classes (What Weapon you equip) with Jobs (What role you play in a fight)
They are not the same things, they are not even on the same level. Thats why Jobs are their own system and Armoury is its own system.
Right now with the Armoury it is up to the player to define their playstyle for their Weapon class. A Thaumaturge can tank in the right circumstances, so can a Marauder, A Lancer, and a Pugilist. They might not be the best at it but they can do it in a pinch.
The Job System lets you unlock a Title (Paladin) that says. "I'm a Tank. Don't worry about what weapon I have equipped, I'll protect you from harm." After that point the weapon no longer matters your Specialized by your Job to be a tank.

look at the end you just want to you your dam fav wep with your role even if the wep make no sense with the role because in ff history each wep had a job bind to it. Even in FFXI samurai was only allow to use bow, polearm,GK that made sense Monk was only allow to use hand to hand and some type of staff which look like a pole lol that what made sense for Monk. allowing a monk to use a sword does not make sense. it not a matter of not allowing you to use w/e wep is the matter it make no sense it look dumb that a monk using polearm or sword or a great axeI think your still trying to confuse Weapon Classes (What Weapon you equip) with Jobs (What role you play in a fight)

The look of Monk WS would look best using hand to hand with a great axe it make no sense lol it just does not feel right that you can be a monk and using a sword or other type of wep that monk really don't use in FF history.
