You're assuming far too much. You act as if we have real details regarding the job system other than it gives new skills and has a class requirement to unlock jobs. Also, the job system is built upon the class system. It doesn't really make sense to assume that it will run completely independent of what is already in place, a system that defines classes by the weapon being used. You seem to think the job system will some how supersede the class system, working beyond and apart from it. As a foundation though the class system will naturally impart restrictions upon the job system.

I don't understand why we would have a basic system defined by weapon only to have that rule thrown out the window upon the use of the job system which is layered upon it. To use any weapon on any job when the class used to unlock said job doesn't possess such freedom just doesn't make sense to me and seems to fly in the face of the entire idea of the job system, one that allows specialization and rigidity for party situations.

This, it makes sense to me that if you are required to be a specific class to unlock it you are required that same class to use it.

    What I'm saying is

If Jobs = Playstyle (Paladin = Tank, Warrior = DD, etc)
Playstyles should not be restricted to One Weapon. And One weapon should not be restricted to one playstyle.

Strip the names away and just look at the core.

    Sword / Tank
    Spear / Tank
    Staff / Healer
    Club / Healer
    Dagger / DD
    Great Axe / DD

Your Weapon Class is only your weapon, Just because you change your playstyle doesn't mean you forget how to use your favorite weapon.

I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

I use a staff/club and I'm definitely NOT a healer. Lancers are far from tanks btw.

I tanked Birds as a Paladin with a Polearm in FFXI.

How are Lancers not tanks? All lancer is is your weapon. Your playstyle defines you as a tank.

Paladin is the Playstyle, It says your a tank, At that point it doesn't matter what weapon you equip you'll ALWAYS be a tank. so you shouldn't be limited to playing TANK with what ever weapon you prefer.

IE Once you equip Paladin you'll always have access to all the skills from the current skills you know that Paladin can use, All the skills paladin gives you on its own. Plus all the bonuses Paladin gives you as a Job. Weapon no longer matters once you unlock the job.

A PALADIN is a tank, but a LANCER is not. Yes, you tanked using a lance in FFXI, but in FFXI, PALADIN had set skills, traits and stats to tank with really any weapon (Shield being the best, followed by staff). In FFXIV, there is no PALADIN. If you use a lance, you are a LANCER and LANCER is not a tank by any means. You go on with "playstyles," but just because you have a playstyle that you like doesn't make it a good one. An Archer can use GLA skills, but archer is NOT A TANK. Are you really so ignorant that you can't see this?

You can't say what a Lancer is because all it is is a weapon. Its nothing more then "One who uses a Spear" Thats it. If they want to be tanks they should be allowed too once they unlock that playstyle.

THERE IS NO PLAYSTYLE YOU TWIT!!! Did you even read the letter? There are classes (Lancer, Conjurer, etc) and Jobs (Undefined yet but they will be the trademark jobs such as black mage). I don't know where you get this playstyle bullcrap from, but it isn't happening. A lancer, in FFXIV, IS NOT A TANK. End of story. An Archer, in FFXIV, IS NOT A TANK. Deal or leave. It's not going to happen.

i didnt see anyone mention that the new jobs might only be held to either DOM or DOW, or even able to equip said classes on a few but not all of DOW. they might not be all around universal, but they might not be held down to that one class too.

yes and you was gimp like hell because PLD does not have a A in that wep Monk. Like samurai can only use GK and polearm and bowwep we was good in all 3 becuase that make sense in real life samurai use bows, polearm and GK only but to do best DMG they have to use GK.

you pretty much want a samurai allow to be use a hand to hand wep that make no sense.

btw even if you allow to use GLD and then put the title Monk on it you be gimp because monk would still be using pug spell and only spell on pug work better at the end if someone saw you doing that they just kick you. they even said they gimping spell so ya pretty.

You should only allow to use wep that make sense to the job. like samurai = polearm, bow,GK
