Are you saying that SE has never made a mistake? You are right the game is perfect as it is, Rift is a just a good rip off of wow and it is way more successful that FFXIV has ever been.6 crafters? you must be playing a completely different game than i am. i know many that got one battle to 50 and now only use that one class to farm mats for their crafts. you take that away from them after the hours spent and you will lose alot more than 6 per server.

I totally agree with you it would be a slap to the face but I still feel it would be better in the long run.
The majority of people don't play MMO's to craft, crafting is supposed to be something you do on the side.
The 20-30k players still playing the game dont matter. PS3 players and any PC players generated by the PS3 launch are all that matters. SE should do whats best for their company and those new players. And yes this is coming from someone who is a current player and current crafter.6 crafters? you must be playing a completely different game than i am. i know many that got one battle to 50 and now only use that one class to farm mats for their crafts. you take that away from them after the hours spent and you will lose alot more than 6 per server.
I have 8 crafts at 50. All I did was watch T.V. and spam standard for easy mode synths. Enjoy leveling those crafts in 1.19 and beyond everyone!
This is the the most pointless thing I have ever read... your list of reasons why people craft, because you don't like to?I believe if SE removed crafting all together and marginalized repairing at NPC's they would lose only 1-2% of their current subscriptions yet they would gain more than 10% of those who have already quit.
My question to people who craft is why do you craft? What is your goal?
As Gladiator my goal is to tank the most difficult enemies in the game with my friends. And yes, if a good looking piece of armor drops or weapon that help me do that better then I get really excited, the items dropped by said enemies are like trophies of accomplishments for me and my friends. It is a virtual display of my skill and the skill of those of whom are in my company.
The ONLY time I would ever desire to level a craft is if it helped me accomplish my goal.
As my friends and our ability to accomplish our goals increase then so should our rewards.
This is, from my 13 years of MMO experience, what we call FUN.
My question still is what is YOUR goal people who craft?
There are only a few possibilities that I can see:
1. You want gil. But why? It's worthless. Only thing you can buy in game with gil is gear. And why would you need gear... to craft more gear? There is no goal in this cyclical reasoning. So either you are selling gil or your goal is something else.
2. You want gear. But why? You're a crafter. If a enormous dragon appears over Ul'dah are you going to throw stones at him and then blind him with you shinny gear? The point is you have no skill that matters. What skill does it take to craft? It requires zero skill, zero strategy and no coordination with others. I could train a mouse to rank up a crafting class 1-50 as it is now. So what do you gain as a crafter if gear is useless to you?
3. You are masochistic. You do painful things for sexual pleasure. Please stop playing this game and see a psychologist.
4. You want to manipulate the market for your own personal gain. AH here's the truth... and probably describes most people who craft. You want to craft difficult items for profit so that you can buy what ever you want in the game including gear to help you damage/tank/heal in scenario X. You are the same kind of people that believe money buys friends and happiness. You want people who have talent to need you because you yourself have zero talent. Please GTFO.
the 20-30 left may not matter in the long run, but if they keep pushing this % away for this or that % away for that don't you think that same % of people of the upcoming ps3 base will be pushed away for the same reasons? the thing is at this point they should be making things to bring more people in and not pushing more out. that is good business. The 20-30k players still playing the game dont matter. PS3 players and any PC players generated by the PS3 launch are all that matters. SE should do whats best for their company and those new players. And yes this is coming from someone who is a current player and current crafter.

To be honest most of the stuff in here sounds like:
'we don't think crafting is important so SE shouldn't, the crafter's should just play the way we want to play and forget about crafting because we think its a waste of time. If they want to quit then we don't care, convert and be like us or leave the game!'
As I said, I play fighting and crafting classes and I see the importance in both and one should not be belittled just because some don't like to craft or don't see the importance in it like others do.
Oh and as someone mentioned the only reason people craft is to fix their own gear, well I'm an Alchemist and Cook so obviously that is NOT the reason why some people craft. Maybe they craft because they enjoy it?
I say let crafting be important in some capacity, just like fighting classes are. If this game were the real world (which I'm sure some of you will argue that its not) it would suck if there were no cooks to feed people, or people to repair damages weapons, or gear. To be honest, if this were a real world the people making sure that the fighters have everything needed to defend their home are just important as the people defending it. Without them there would be no gear, weapons etc.
Seems like a childish argument to say one class isn't as important as another class just because they don't go out and fight or cause damage. Every class is important in its own way, and should be treated with respect due to that.
But I know a lot of ya'll will disagree with me and that's ok!![]()
