Something about the incoming PvP that really disturbs me. The names. Fresh meat.

Did you miss the part where the mods posted in this thread and confirmed that Fresh Meat is being deliberately put in even at release? Please read the thread before posting.

Fresh Meat is a huge problem and they need to fix it. Imagine when they roll out Grand Company frontlines. 32+ players. Fresh Meat all over the place, can you imagine?

I remember doing WoW Arena, and we NEVER called anyone by their name. We always said "Kill the priest!, or Kill the druid!" I NEVER EVER remember calling ppl by their name. Even when there was 2 priests, we'd always say "Kill the human priest, or the blood elf priest" etc.

On a side note: What viable comp ran with 2 of the same class? None, never. It was always Mage, Rogue, Priest. OR Druid, Hunter, Shaman OR DK, Warrior, Pally. No viable comp uses 2 of the same class.

yup, the only time I used the names in wow arena was to see if I should AFK that fight. If the same 3 guys that had been beating us senseless appeared I just told my brothers to go grab some coffee.

Why can't the game call us Miqo'te Lancer? Why are we called Fresh Meat? If they have to rename us at least make the name descriptive as to what we're actually fighting. Perhaps the implementation of titles would also alleive this.

See a few posts above to realize that the idea of "Fresh Meat" is to get rid of the trash talking mentality in PvP. Honestly trash talking has no basis on skill, it's simply an ego puff.

Also, if you can't tell what class they are just by looking at their character, it's not a good sign. The person has a big spear, probably a lancer or dragoon. (Most likely going to see more Classes in PvP since you get 10 abilities from cross skills instead of 5, that's just my theory)

"Fresh Meat" will only ruin the community because it removes trash talking and harassing, which people enjoy for some reason. But I highly doubt the JP community does, since PvP in FFXI is pretty much dead and never took off in the first place. Trash talking really has nothing to do with how skillful you are. Try focusing on being the best, instead of focusing on who to call a "noob" and harass all the time.

So many powder puffs. Trash talking is part of any competitive game. Michael Jordan is one of the biggest trash talkers to ever exist. Guess what he was the best. It drives competition, it also a great motivator. Depending on how it's used it can also help you WIN A WAR (propaganda), something the french never learned....(joke)

If PvP lowers your self esteem and your self worth that much then don't do it. PvP is not for everyone. I doubt the PvP will be mind blowing in 14, but due to that why make it even worse by putting "fresh meat" or some variant of "meat". Names are important for identifying purposes, if its used to talk shit then so be it. But I'd rather know that player named "john doe" is good and he does certain rotation of moves, rather than go in blindly and figure it out.

Not knowing your target for whatever purpose is dumb, makes you fly blind and to say it adds to the game is a ridiculous notion. To be the best you have to know your enemy just as well as you know yourself otherwise you'll fail.

If you played a game in which the only thing you knew about the opponent was their class that would be awful. Just imagine it. You're playing this game, every mob looks the same and its named mob#1-infinity. You only know their class, but don't know their level or their ability. Fighting a nameless opponent makes it no different than fighting bots with intelligent AI since you can't relate nor can you even feel a sense of accomplishment because for all you know you just beat someone with a severe mental handicap.

Implement some decent PvP so the people that actually enjoy this game can PvP when they want rather than logging off to play a game with "real" PvP.

For targeting purposes, the opponents should have different names.

Oh and "Fresh Meat" is a stupid name.

I'd be on board with Mysterious Warrior (1, 2, ...) Mysterious paladin... etc. This would mask names while still being functional so you can identify who's what job in the firefight.

Here's a solution, why dont they just ad a random name generator to the opposing teams names? Would you even know the difference then?

Just watched Beta Phase 4 videos on Youtube of FFXIV PvP. It is very unbalanced but that still doesn't stop people from ridiculing it before it even comes out, let alone it still being developed and in beta.

Your tactic on knowing your enemy has nothing to do with names. Know what class they play, know how to counter their comp and execute your counter well. It's as simple as that.

When you talk about "being good" it doesn't matter when you reach top tier PvP because then everyone is good and too many mistakes or poor execution will be a loss no matter what. Names mean nothing to gladiators inside the arena.

I can agree with having titles won or some kind of special reward for being a top tier player in PvP, that I can agree with, but that's it.

The PvP in this is not going to be about trash talking, and I for one am happy about that. I rather people focus on being good instead of worrying about who to troll.

I actually prefer it this way. It forces people to strategize.

The way I see it is like this. A and B are a couple of new players to the PVP scene, otherwise clueless to what's going on. M and O have been around the block a few times and they're getting familiar with the people of PVP. They might not be the greatest, but they know how to win. Y and Z are pretty popular amongst the community, they win a fair majority of matches so they obviously know the in's and out's of the PVP scene, so they're well known.

Assume the same of the other team. All of a sudden you have your mid tier and end tier players focusing on each other right out of the gate instead of playing by strategy.

Keeping it this way means you're playing based on the other teams actions instead of who they are and where you've heard of them.

As some of you have already mentioned, the reason why we have elected to display the names of your opponents as "Fresh Meat" is to prevent harassment from occurring. We feel this is an important aspect to address to create a fun and comfortable environment for everyone to enjoy PvP.

Keep it up SE.

You may be policing the game, but look at the MMO community as a whole...filled with hatred and bashing and flaming.

Don't like it? Ths is SE's game, not yours. They are trying to be different than those other MMOs.
