Yeah, Camate. I don't think people have a problem with the generic names so much as they think the generic name ought to be something less silly.
Don't get me wrong. I really like all the silliness that's been injected into the game by Fernehalwes and the localization team, but in this case it detracts from the experience.

I'd prefer they name us like daoc, tbh, race + class. Like 'Midlander Dragoon', 'Lalafel White Mage'.
I'd be on board with Mysterious Warrior (1, 2, ...) Mysterious paladin... etc. This would mask names while still being functional so you can identify who's what job in the firefight.
