I'm playing off a RAMdisk but I don't think it's faster than an SSD. HDDs, ewww!

There are many different brands and whatnot, but try to get something with 500MB/s read/write speed. Just watch this thread and get a 250/256 GB when they go on sale. You just missed a sale on a 256GB one for $150.

I play the game off a hard drive (since my solid state is reserved just for the OS and a few programs) and loading times are seriously 3-4 seconds between zones, maybe a tiny bit longer zoning into dungeons. There's really no reason to buy a solid state drive *just* for this game, it won't do much.

Now, that being said, I absolutely love having Windows on my SSD... boot times are like 20 seconds from post to desktop and everything is very snappy.

I keep my ssd strictly for my os and applications, I only have 128gb to work with so all games go on any of my other drives

SSD will only wait for loading time. It will reduce about half the time required to load the next map (with a good pc build) . But don't forget , you can't start a dungeon without all people so if you love dungeon crawling you're going to wait after the other anyway so consider this before buying it

Well SSD is still a new technik in Private computer, the more you use it the faster it breaks sadly an SSD has not a long life if you use it as a Gaming device, you should get a fast HDD the loadingtime is just 3-5 seconds less with SSD, and keepp OS on your SSD that will make a huge difference.

SSD's will make a lot of things faster on your computer. Especially since you don't need to defrag it and such. Just make sure to do some tweaks and adjustment to take better advantage of it.

I have two SSD's one for Windows and one for games. It's no contest, I originally installed FFXIV on the HDD and then when curiosity got the better of me I freed up some space on my gaming SSD and reinstalled to that. Everything to do with loading is much quicker, from initial bootup of the game to loading zones up. The main game effecting difference though is when you get raised, you shave a good few seconds off the load time which let's you get back into the fight quicker. When I am playing WHM I can tell when someone is using a SSD as the time from when they disappear and reappear to start moving again is much quicker, which gets them back in the fight faster.

You redump the game to RAM every time you restart your computer? ~9GB is a lot to transfer every time.
