Hello,
First off, apologies for the delay in responding about this topic. Below is a response from the lead designer himself, Takeo Suzuki.
Hello,
Lead designer Takeo Suzuki here.
We understand that you all care deeply for the detail and shape of your characters, and while the development team is really happy about this, we would like to keep the specifications for character’s butts as they are.
I’d like to explain a bit about why we changed the shape of character model’s butts. It all began when Yoshi-P and the character team sat down and reconsidered what should be prioritized for players when we moved from 1.0 to A Realm Reborn.
Based on this discussion it was decided to place emphasis on the below:
- New races (male Miqo’te, female Highlanders, and female Roegadyn.)
- Increase the amount of content and the amount of reward items (equipment and weapons)
(We want to make a team that can create more than four times the amount of rewards compared to what there was originally.)
As a result of thinking about what could be done to fulfill the above objectives all while converting everything over and optimizing all the data by completely remaking the graphics engine, we decided to reduce the cost by simplifying items that were too complex when making them. One aspect of this was the graphical display of waist equipment.
I deeply apologize for those of you who were really partial to what Miqo’tes looked like in 1.0, but this decision was made so we could relaunch with new races and a lot of new equipment. We will be implementing a wide variety of really cool looking equipment moving forward, and we appreciate your understanding on this.
Devin "Camate" Casadey - Community Team

When they decided to make waists smaller, they should have slimmed down the waist size on equipment as well at least. It looks very odd to have your shirt/dress/weapon floating a few inches away from everything else.
Food for thought.
Someone translated the basic premise of this thread and posted it on the JP forums, they began discussing it... That got the dev attention and a response was made in That thread.
This is just that getting translated and brought over.
Everyone in that OP is a creepy mofo, who needs to watch less anime.

It's not a lame reason, it's just one you're unwilling to accept. Face it, they did what they did because of PS3 limitations.
I've seen plenty of girls with asses flat as cardboard. I don't know if this represents any sort of majority in females though.
(Now I want to go find some study on this)

Actually, this does not appear to be a valid response. For one, it only speaks of the waist slot not being visible. That is NOT what we are asking for. We asked for the shape of the behind on Mi'quote to be returned to shapely. Similar to the other female races.Hello,

I'm saddened by Takeo Suzuki's response.
I'll be the first to admit I didn't expect the "customizable body shape/butt slider" idea to actually get implemented because the difficulty of doing so could be heightened by previous commitments made by the development team. However, I mentally scaled any cons back when considering how the development team has been listening to and planning for suggestions for other types of issues and features. I also feel Japanese culture tends to pay attention to details particularly those surrounding the customization of the representative image of the player. So, yeah, I am sad I cannot fully mold and shape my character into what I'd like her to be.
It's hard to please everyone, and despite my frowny face I'm still very thankful for what features the development team has released thus far. This is just going to be one of those "wake up" moments where we have to realized they're not developing a game for me or you, but for us.

I'm sorry, this is all I can read from the Dev post. xD Oh, SE, I <3 you sometimes.Originally Posted by Takeo_Suzuki

That is insane.. female Miqo'te can't have nice bums because of male Miqo'te and female roes? That makes no sense at all.. were they all congealed and shaped from the severed rumps of female Miqo'te? WHAT waist equipment are you talking about? NONE of the belts show up on your character in-game, what kind of excuse is that?
Every piece of armor in game has been designed in such a way as to be able to accommodate with any butt size, in fact many of the late game armors have wide kilt-like elements to them at the waist, as if to fit around large trunks.
It was completely uncalled for to amputate all the asses.
Of course it does, if character models have similar shapes then they can just copy/paste the art instead of needing to retool it for every race. This is why I said in Beta it was a bad idea to pine for more and more and more and more new races.
The more you have the more work it is to keep up the same standard of quality so they will cut where they can to prevent them from actually increasing their workload when their goal is to be streamlining.
