Virtual currency and virtual currency platforms can be protected by trademark, copyright, and patent. In fact it's even patented in the US: U.S. patent No. 7,076,445.

Zynga has actively taken ppl to court over it. Do the rest of the research yourself since you are so interested.

Hopefully they'll ended up in jail. I'm not sure about the law of USA but in my country they'll be in jail for sure.

You guys have to remember that just because there is a EULA doesn't mean that it's binding in all countries. Most actually don't give a crap about virtual currency in a virtual game owned by a company that they don't get tax revenue from.

That being said, I hope Square-Enix can push whatever buttons they need to stop RMT in their games. It's always good to see a company actively figthing RMT. Especially when you are in game and it doesn't appear that SE is doing enough. So a screen shot from a gold seller saying that they are having trouble is very positive in my eyes.

Some of them may be in jail already.

I recall this article that was written a few years ago: China used prisoners in lucrative internet gaming work

The use of keyloggers and other means to gain unauthorized access to someones computer is a criminal offense in most countries and could theoretically result in jail time. Unfortunately the investigation and enforcement of these laws is a very low priority where individual users are concerned. The only way anything can be done is if companies work in conjunction with Law Enforcement. I have not heard of this being done yet.

    Living under a rock?

Anonymous PSN Hackers were jailed. International agencies worked together to arrest them in different countries.

SE leaves accounts active for tracking purposes. Including regional ip's, other accounts, people buying gil, and assisting them. Then a more mass SE ban.

Like stated before, it's illegal in the ToS to sell virtual currency but to my knowledge there isn't any type of laws governing this sort of behavior.

Lol @ tirades.. and yes..... while I hardly saw any shouts yesterday while I played the amount of tells were mind boggling. Almost more irritating because of the constant ding going off every time you get a tell.
you would have such knowledge if you had read the last 10 or so posts before yours

Just glad that our blacklist can hold 200 names.. it could be worse. There have been 7 characters out of the 70ish that I have black listed that have been deleted already.

RMT site will just get a few more copies of FFIV and make new mules. I'm not knocking SE efforts, but this is a tempory set back at best.
