Something about the incoming PvP that really disturbs me. The names. Fresh meat.

How untrue, words hurt no matter how you see it. That is why I believe that not seeing the name is a great idea. You might not think words hurt, but they do. Sorry, but MMOs are well known for having this kind of behavior. Shouldn't people know this by now? If you cant handle the troll comments you shouldn't play MMOs or any multiplayer for that matter. Thats why there are still single player games.

I think the fresh meat name is a horrible idea. PvP is not supposed to be so care bear, it is what it is, competition. Why not just disable chat entirely in pvp instead of messing with our character names? And if someone sends you a tell after the match calling you names, thats what the blacklist is for.

Does SE seriously need to slap people on the wrist to try to prevent harassment? Are we so soft skinned these days that if someone says that you suck and L2P that you're going to cry about it? Grow some skin. Besides that kid of stuff usually happens on the same team, plus it's PvP, if someone says something to you, kill them.

The people who are going to whine/be hurt over "harassment" don't belong in PvP anyway.

I think they're talking about people who will make new characters on other servers with the express intent of making someone's playing experience a living hell. It's such an unbelievable thing isn't it? It's never happened to you, it'll never happen to anyone else!

This game with all it's childish restrictions is getting extremely annoying. I feel like a child playing this game.

I come from a pvp game where everyone could see anyone's name. Yeah occasionally some one gets called bad, but people get called bad in PVE aswell. All the harassment, grieving, QQing, L2Ping is going on in the PVE side of the game. So what could it harm letting us see the names in pvp?

An extremely minor solution:

Notice when you fight mobs how they always have a letter next to their name? yeah, that's an identification system. As new mobs are generated they cycle through the alphabet. "Attack the (insert anything here)" - "Which one?" "A! Attack A!" Problem somewhat solved. Yeah, it involves targetting each unit until you find the right one, but better than nothing.

OR you could use the marking system. You can hotkey them as well. mark a target and call it. Only one getting around that is DRG with jump i think

Having done tons of PvP in WoW over the years where people can always see your name and server, I have to say that the number of people willing to create a character on my server just to go off on me after a PvP match were VERY VERY few. Add that in with the fact that our servers are almost always locked to new character creation, and I can't really see it being a huge issue. Maybe a rare problem where you might have to blist one person, but big deal? It's not like many people are going to be willing to sit through the unskippable long CS+convos just to make new characters all the time, and even if they do, they'll just get blisted. I only had 2 people total, from years of PvP ever bother to make an alt just to talk to me. One of them wanted to QQ at me, the other one wanted to congratulate me on killing him with my class as it was something he hadn't seen happen before. Turned into a pretty friendly conversation even.

Any PVP in this game is likely to go the way of Balista and Brenner because only a small fraction of the Final Fantasy community will have any interest... even with incentives. And, if they make the incentives better than what you can get outside of PVP, they'll offend the player base (the 90% who won't be doing PVP) and kill the game for far many more people than if they never had PVP.

The reason ballista/brenner failed was because there was no incentive to participate, not becuase nobody had any interest whatsoever. If ballista gave out cool rewards, you could be sure everyone would have been all over that. Wolve's den DOES have cool rewards. There are going to be people who have never done pvp before who will go "oh wow, I want that cool armor with the tiger head helmet or "dang I want those cool goodies" and queue up just for the chance to get them.

If you give people a reason to go, they will go. I guarantee you, if ballista had material rewards, even if they were cosmetic, more people would have stuck around. TONS of people were playing it when it first came out. Then they discovered there was nothing in it for them, so it essentially slowed their PvE progress without any benefits. Almost nobody does anything just "for fun" in an MMO, at least not anymore.

Removing character names makes it as competitive as possible. You're not focused on killing the guy with the dumb name, or taking down the guy from the RP server, or avoiding the internet-famous streamer; you've just got 8 opponents in front of you to take down efficiently.

As some of you have already mentioned, the reason why we have elected to display the names of your opponents as "Fresh Meat" is to prevent harassment from occurring. We feel this is an important aspect to address to create a fun and comfortable environment for everyone to enjoy PvP.

This is a TEEN rated game, not E! Stop babying us with all this stuff, seriously. Far worse stuff goes on in School than stupid people online. Don't worry about it, it's not your problem. People are going to be jerks regardless.
