This is a really bad idea. In the last mmo I played, all the people I met and that eventually became my friends, I met them in the battlefield. My whole social experience in that last game was around pvp.

We pvpers are different to those who loathe pvp. Usually we are lot better at managing grieving, most of us are immune to it.

With this system, we are never going to know the names of our killers, or the ones we kill. We will never be praised or hated for our skills, be bad or good.

If someone can't handle the drama about pvp, then they just shouldn't pvp.

I'm fine with fresh meat (I'm also fine with displaying names). I don't need to know somebody's name to know I'm better than them. Nor do I care who I'm up against since the vast majority of the time I'll be seeing new faces anyway. If it prevents people from spouting hate because of their kindergarden tantrum then that's fine with me, the community (from my perspective) has shown themselves too immature for display names.

Majority is punished for the minority. Basic principle of life.

I have no issue with this at all. Mark them with 1, 2, 3, 4 and it's very easy to discern targets.

Pretty lame, the genre born on social interaction just gets more and more anti-social as time goes on.
    Are you serious?
you knew who was good/bad, trash talking on forums, then you complain about a social game becoming more anti-social...

thank you for saying this. While I'm more into PvE than PvP, in my experience long-time PvPers are rarely jerks. Yes, there are jerks in every demographic, but those that do it a lot generally understand that ups and downs happen. Nobody is undefeated.

It's kind of like judging the PvE crowd by the one kid who dies to a boss because derp, blames lag, and then pitches a frothing-at-the-mouth fit and ragequits immediately.

I know right? I like the how the idea of Community for PVPers is being able to grief and talk shit to each other. Why does griefing and negativity have to be a part of PVP for it to be worthwhile? Isn't competing against other humans fulfilling enough? Also to the dude that is so adamant about people seeing his name? Do you not realize how shitty that sounds? "I don't care about seeing other players names but I want them to SEE MY NAME AS A KILL THEM!"

I believe that harassment is a part of the issue, but I also believe you can tell people apart by what they wear and weapons they wear. Then you would know if he is maybe going to be good or he is a noob. Like for instance: If you have no af on and just regular nq armor and weapons, well guess what you probably got that he/she beat. Think outside the box and not inside friends.

I think it's just a rank, lowest in tier.

I also hope I can just enjoy the pvp aspect of this game, you know, like playing a game of pickup basketball.

Very bad idea. Drama and rage is part of PvP, it can't be fun without it.

Also this will just hide the trolls and DDOSers. How the hell would you know who DDOSed you when you can't even see their name. Now DDOSing probably won't happen to random people in XIV, but it will happen to streamers, ect. People who's names are well known.

And yes, DDOSing is a huge problem in PvP. It happens regularly.

The idea of them catering to the mentality of "I want to log into this persistent online world and be a roaming raging badass without participating in anything besides this single narrow facet of the game" is what bothers me.

Here's to hoping that everything gained in PvP is cosmetic/starter-entery level armor so somebody without friends or any aspirations to master the holistic microcosm of FFXIV doesn't get smashed in two seconds/there is no reward but new actions and or the tears of my enemies.
I wish they'd (all game developers) learn and keep pvp games and pve games separate. Every single game with both, ends up fubarring pve in order to somehow make pvp "fair". PvP and PvE have two entirely different mechanics and goals; therein lies the issues with making skills in both genres work fairly.
