Why cant we play Garlean empire?

I found myself very sympathetic towards the Garlean Empire. There's shades of grey, they've blood on their hands but they're more well-intentioned extremists than irredeemably evil. I'd love to be able to play one in the future and see Garlemald from the perspective of one of its inhabitants rather than the 'heroes' of Eorzea invading it..

Well intentioned huh? I know the 3 city states aren't the best and got worst after the whole bahumt being summoned and all but Garlean empire is still worst I don't see how saying 'join me or die' is well intentioned for the record I don't even see the people of eorzea invading Garlean empire when they in fact just want them out of eorzea

Well that big roe said his country was pure chaos before the empire came along his people would murder and kill each other. Personally I think there is no good guy here I just fight for myself/friends thats it.

I also really like the Empire. I doubt we'll be joining them any time soon, but eventually we'll get an expansion set in Garlemald (fingers crossed for 2019, keeping with the current 2 year cycle) and if the Gods are just, we'll get a gunblade class and tonnes of Imperial clothing and gear.

I would like to play as the Garlean Empire, but also would like to see a whole new MSQ line from their perspective.

Actually just thinking about it doesnt that make all magic classes impossible to play?

Most of the Garlean troops we've encountered have been conscripted from the regions conquered by Garlemald. Only pure-blooded Garleans can't use magic, but they recruit plenty of people from other races who can.

Just curious, scenario or not. How would an aether-bound Echo person fit in garlean?
I mean other than being a lab rat like how they treat kirille, it's not a very fun life.
I imagine the story is very short until level 20 where we have to survive Ifrit's, or concept of Echo.

van Baelsar tried recruiting us at one point, so I guess we'd be Imperial operatives of some sort rather than experiments.

I think having some Garlemald-related quests and some gathering and crafting jobs related to Garlemald would be excellent for an expansion. Maybe even have some housing there and in Ala Mhigo. The prices of garlic would drop like a stone!

Personally I'd like the idea of the empire becoming a neutral force that we might have a truce with but aren't actually allied with. Could create some interesting scenarios later down the line after the initial war-path is ended.
