This is different than in FFXI. I spent a lot of time in FFXI managing my inventory, but I never felt like I had to make decisions I would majorly regret. If worst came to worst in FFXI, you could offload your inventory to your alts, make another alt, or mail items to yourself if they were must-have items. In FFXIV though, we are at a choke point with many many many more items, 4 different variants of each item, and mainly due to the far more in depth crafting system. More inventory space is certainly needed, or the ability to have more retainers, or a mail system, or an auction house system with unlimited auction space.

For example, the inventory limits make you lean toward vendoring any +1 +2 or +3 because that way you can maintain a stack of regular items. But the existence of those items should make you lean toward saving them (or selling them) for an important craft. But because of the systems in the game, you have to vendor them. What a waste.

That you'd regret? Go get the damn item again. There's not a whole lot of rare and exciting things in this game. Anything you can get you can get again with not a whole lot of trouble.

I level every single class in the game. So far I'm having no trouble with my inventory except for when I get lazy and don't manage it. After I manage it I continue leveling. That includes every single craft and storing mats for future synths, every piece of gear I'm interested in, and things that "might be useful in the future".

People just keep whining that they want more, more, more, and more. I'm almost hoping that they decrease the inventory space just to teach people to manage their shit more, but that's never going to happen.

Why? I fail to see why you still need yet more retainer space. SE provides you the tools, you utilize them, it's not up to SE to cater this game to every little folly a small percentage of the playerbase has. I mean, I know SE wanted to see more horizontal levelling, but if you're trying to rank every... single... class... then it's your own fault. Optimize a bit, finish one craft, then move to the next. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the inventory space allocated, especially with large changes coming to the crafting system to address the overburden of materials.

    Ehm...

Don't misunderstand, no complaining at all, but simply a request. I've 7/8 Disciples of the Hand over Rank 30 and the 3 Disciples of the Land over Rank 20 (I level them all at the same time), and I wouldn't have asked if it hadn't become this time-consuming to manage stuff.

The fact is that to manage the inventory and the retainers' items takes me at least 15 minutes daily. I've two Retainers, one with Blacksmith/Armorer/Goldsmith/Carpenter stuff, another with Alchemist/Leatherworker/Weaver/Event items stuff. Of course, I could gain more space if I'd just discard, for instance, the 2 sets of Dream equip from the Starlight Celebration or the few Usagi Kabuto I've left; but I'm also thinking about new adventurers who'll come to Eorzea in our guild and might want those.

Also, it's not that easy to “simply get again the item you previously discarded”. It depends on luck sometimes, if a monster drops it soon or not, or if you can craft it. And it depends on how much time one can afford to spend daily in Eorzea.
So my inventories are in order, and since they are I don't even use the sort function, since I took my time to manually sort them. To have more space I should simply discard stuff, like:

    - The previously mentioned Dream and Usagi equip, but I already explained why I'm keeping them.

    - Repairing materials I don't need, but I want to keep those in case someone need assistance. I might discard those Hempen Fents, ok, but what if I see a new adventurer in Gridania who asks for repair and there're no fents in the Market Wards there?

    - HQ versions. And in this case why should I discard, for instance, 4 Iron Fish Hooks +3 if I was lucky enough to create them? I'd use one for the Bamboo Fishing Rod and if the tool doesn't HQ, I'd try again later when I'm more experienced. Creating Iron Nuggets +3 is not that easy, procure the materials and all.
I remember once when I ended a synth with 3 Copper Ores +3 and 1 Zinc Ore +3, resulting in 12 normal Brass Nuggets, while I already had used up too quickly the HQ nuggets I had before. And getting HQ Ores at my rank is not that easy, either. Yesterday I got 2 Iron Ores +3 and couldn't get the remaining 2. Same thing for a Limonite +3 and Iron Sand +3 I'd need. Considering how uncommon it was to get them, I'm not convinced in discarding or selling them. These, of course, are just a few of the dozens of examples I could make, just to give an idea.
I've many other +3 items I got from monsters, and that's the same, sometimes they simply don't drop them, even after hours of slaying, so I keep them if I happen to find them.

If I get rid of the stuff mentioned in the first two points, I'd probably gain around 30 spaces, but in that case it wouldn't be fine for the way I live it in Eorzea (many may not understand this, I know).

I, instead, understand your points and thank you for sharing them. I'd simply like to have more liberty, being able to craft Classes-specific equipments or just some gear for aesthetics, and to do this, since I don't want to discard the repairing materials for others or my HQ stuff, I'd need more space, and as a crafter I wouldn't see a better way than to create by myself some special bag, so that only those who need it, upgrade it (Choice). But it's not a complaint, just a request.

    Take it easy. See ya!
