Dear ALL Tanks.
L2P. Sorry, but I've had good tanks that are full AF and greys that I don't pull threat off of. I wait 5 seconds, then jump into the fray.

To OP:
Get a proper weapon before you que and you shouldn't have a problem. As a war tank, I had the level 70 tradeskill weapon and I couldn't hold hate on relic users. I went and got the Garuda axe and now my enmity is absolutely solid.
Before you get frustrated, realize that this is the best place to cap myth tombstones so your going to see a lot of really overgeared folks here. This is a good thing.
Solution: mark your targets! This will help dps focus their attacks and you won't have to use as much ae stuff (flash, overpower) to keep enmity.
Bard tank is best tank. I always attack the marked monster if the tank bothers to do it, otherwise it can get confusing which thing I'm "supposed" to be hitting (Marking before you engage is a plus, macroing it with your Shield Throw or Tomahawk works nicely). If I see a tank with gear several levels below mine I make sure to run into melee range so if I steal hate it won't be annoying for him, but I don't really see the issue with me taking a few hits from trash monsters given most of them don't hit too hard.

Mog axe here. Same tier as 'ruda weps. I always mark targets as well. Its not overgeared folks that I care about, its when their overgeared and seemingly don't know how to play.To OP:

Note that I'm talking about 'geared' people that just attack w/e they want, ignoring marks, taking like three more minutes to kill a group of mobs because of that.
Sorry, but if you're a 'geared' dragoon and can't pull off of the main target for an af tank, you're not putting out as much dps as you should, and really ought to 'l2p' yourself ;p

I'm a main tank and I agree that tanks need to l2p. If your dps are pulling trash mobs you're doing it wrong.
A good tank will never have aggro problems...even if the dps or heals are well geared.
Many tanks I have met in DF will just whack on one mob and let the rest lunch on me but that's ok since trash generally does not hit that hard.
I do keep with "DD's" not DPS, my DD's I run with do 180 DPS+ and I hold hate just fine, most DF "DD's" cant do more than 100 "DPS".
Oh lol. You must not know tanking and hate mechanics very well then.
You just are lucky enough not to have ran with DDs that like to ignore marks and go all out before you even get your +enmity combo then. Go back and read what I've written before saying 'you can hold hate just fine'.
Reading is hard :x see my reply to Jeronlmo. Its like no one even bothers to read past the thread title xD
If you can keep hate when each dd is going all out on a different mob and they pull them away from you while running around in circles, *golf clap*. Grats for being a tryhard and putting up with it I guess. I don't, it takes too long to kill mobs and makes my job more difficult.

Because I never lose hate? Sounds like you're the one with mechanic issues, friend. We're just here to try to help you.
Edit to an edit: That is exactly what I'm saying. It doesn't matter if both of my relic dps are on different mobs I hold hate fine. You need to learn to cycle and figure out exactly how much enmity you gain per skill use.

I agree with OP. If you are in a group where everyone knows the run inside out then yeah you attack whatever but you know these people and you are not doing the DF. If you are in duty finder and pulling this crap then yeah the tank can leave you there. It takes longer when one dumb DPS is doing whatever he pleases and slows the run.
I guess it's true that DPS are derps
