    Blacklist fails to blacklist

A player on Ultros named Teknik Prime is spamming in Ul'dah mercilessly.
I try to add him to my blacklist and see an error saying he is already on my blacklist.

I try to send him a tell and I'm told I can't communicate with a player on my blacklist.
So now I can't even blacklist the spammers?

I realize new MMOs have many issues, as I'm a senior engineer from the gaming industry. That said, it's pretty sad how many low hanging fruit haven't been addressed yet.

    1. Having to blacklist people or turn off shout EVERY time I go to a main city?
    Unacceptable.
Hire a CM to sit in towns and ban people. I shouldn't have to do their job for them.

    2. 99% of them spam a website (even changed from www.somesite.com to www, somesite, com is incredibly easy to check for). Just check for the same phrase repeated multiple times in the same shout. If someone's shouting and they're including the same phrase 4, 5, or 6 times... your engineers should be looking for that and alerting CMs, if they don't automatically quiet the person.

Feel free to reach out. I'd be more than happy to contract out some help to detect this if it would result in a better experience. But not correcting this (and NO, banning someone for having more than X gil is NOT a fix... You've now told all the gold farmers what the level is, so they'll ensure they always carry less) after such a successful launch is really not acceptable.

Square Enix clearly has the cash to address this. So do it.

    Greetings!

We appreciate you taking the time to report the trouble you are having to us. However, there are still some details that we need to collect from you before we are able to investigate this properly. Please use the bug reporting template found Here so that we can get the system specifications for your PC (or model number if you're using a PS3) as well as the other information in the template. Thank you very much!

    Regards,

I said this was on Ultros, however the same behavior exists on all servers.
I fail to see how you think my laptop specifications, modem speed, or Internet Explorer version are even remotely related to the in-game spamming.
To save you the trouble of asking: Yes, I have reset my cable modem, I DID blow into the cartridge, and no I am not interested in a new long distance phone carrier.

Bug templates are fine when relevant.
This is not one of those times.

Being a sarcastic jerk to the person responsible for helping you will not get anything done. Chill out.

There's a known bug where the blacklist doesn't function correctly when you're actually viewing your blacklist. By chance, were you viewing your blacklist already when those shouts went through?

I do not think that Neville's "sarcasm" is unjustified. He is angry and irritated at a severely broken system and he has a right to be that way. It is completely unacceptable that we can't block people with one click and even more unacceptable that certain people have seemingly hacked the game allowing them to send messages even though they are blacklisted. This is entirely unprofessional and extremely irritating. It is as if the gold spammers have won. They have already destroyed the chat in every city and now there are some that are immune to the blacklist?! This really really really needs to be addressed. I am on the Phoenix server and the last person whom I blacklisted that is still able to send messages is named Augustines Happer. Their messages have showed up without my blacklist being opened. I implore the devs kindly to address this issue as it is getting worse and impedes my ability to enjoy an otherwise terrific game.

If they're getting messages through without the blacklist being opened, then yeah, the blacklist might as well be entirely nonfunctional. That needs to be addressed ASAP, I'll agree, and I'll also agree that we need a better system to blacklist spammers or otherwise remove them from the game.

And I'm not saying he doesn't have a right to be mad; believe me, it irritates me badly whenever I get one because my blacklist is open. All I'm saying is that taking it out on the person trying to get it fixed doesn't help anything.

So I think I may have found out why the spammers get through my blacklist. As I stated, I certainly did not have my blacklist opened when this occurred. This is because I had just zoned in. I think it takes too long to load 100-200 names on a blacklist so it's possible for 1-10 gold-selling shouts to get in when you first enter any given city. I really hope this helps people out. I no longer believe it is hacking but I still kindly implore the game designers to do something about this horrendous, heinous, unacceptable level of gold spammers that are systematically ruining the game's chat.

    Greetings,
I am sorry to hear you are having trouble with your blacklist. I would recommend removing some older names of characters who've been deleted or are inactive. Also, I am happy to inform you that this matter has already been brought to our attention, and is currently under investigation by development. I recommend checking Here or Here for any updates in the future! Thank you again for your report.
