While the method you all have discovered to transfer your settings to other computers that involves copying the DAT file in your FFXIV character folder will work, please be sure to handle these files carefully as errors may arise if not moved properly.

Also, we are currently looking into a feature that will allow you to import and export each character’s hot bar, gear set, and HUD layout settings.

Could we also get these settings saved server side? There should be any reason why we have to manually move a file from one computer to another.

This. There's no reason why they shouldn't be saved server side. I haven't played any serious subscription MMO in the last half-dozen years that didn't have this.
