Cause honestly I'm loving this game for storyline alone and main quests, but when it comes to actually getting into a duty and doing a dungeon, I'm hopelessly lost. My girlfriend plays as a healer, and her job is pretty easy, just point on whoever is in trouble and heal them, or crank out all the protection spells. Me on the other hand, people get mad at me and no one seems to bother wanting to explain what I'm doing wrong. I've only died once in an entire dungeon, and I make a lot of kills, but it doesnt stop the tank normally from cursing me out for no end.

You are just being grouped in with jerks.

That, or you are pissing them off and keep taking aggro off the tank, but I don't want to assume you do that.

Are you asking a run down on the entire dungeon or just the boss's?

Here's the problem, I hear people shouting about aggro and tank, and I have no idea what that means at all. So I really wouldn't know what stealing it is or how I would even be doing it. I don't need a run down on an entire dungeon, or even bosses, I guess just a better way to be an archer where I'm not pissing people off? Some of them even were cursing out my girlfriend because she would heal me when she should have just let me get KO'd because of all the mistakes I was making.

Anyway I just wanna know how to do the job better in Dungeons so at the bare minimum I'm not ticking people off. I wish I knew what I was doing wrong so I could give more specifics. Aggro: Gamer term for the 'aggression' of a monster, and who it is currently attacking.

The 'tanks' job in a dungion is to basically 'aggro' all of the mobs and keep them attacking him and only him. The Healers job is to keep him alive, and us DPS's, (Archers, lancers, BLM's, Pugalists) our job is to do the 'damage' to the mob to kill it, as well as kill any 'small' monsters that 'add in' (spawn durring the fight to 'help' the larger monster).

When in a party as an archer (or any dps based class), Our role is to simply attack the monsters in whatever order the group leader or tank decides. While also quickly killing any of the 'adds' that show up. Now, for 'order' i mean that when the tank attacks a group of monsters, he will try to get them all attacking him, while he himself attacks 1 of the group of monsters. As a DPS, you need to make sure you are 'also' attacking the SAME monster he is. If you attack one that he is not (but is still hitting him), there is the chance you will 'pull' that monster off of him (you will get the 'aggro' of that monster away from the tank). This makes the Tank have to chase the monster down to get it back to hitting him.

Now this does not mean that you have to 'always' only attack what the tank is. You'll learn threw experience what monsters in dungions you can quickly kill on your own (the 'adds' in boss fights, the small mobs scattered around the dungions that are 'next to' the larger mobs.. that sorta thing). These you can kill quickly and should do so befor returning your attention to the monster the tank is currently hitting.

I am new here, but not to MMO's. In all MMO's with the trinity in it it is always a good idea to let tank grab aggro and kill trash or wait a few seconds that he/she has built enough hate to keep the boss.

It can take seconds or lil longer depending on tank and there abilitities. Laying right into things before a tank has established themselves will always get you cursed or yelled at because makes the fight so much harder on healers and tank chasing the mobs you are kiting around.

Never kite a mob if you see tank trying to get aggro back or get control of it from you. Stop and take a hit or two so tank can taunt or such off of you. If to scared to stop then kite it around tank so he can get it from you.

Watch group follow tanks lead and what is dying at time and kill it and you should be fine.

I must have been lucky so far, no one cursed at me yet. Even though I was the cause for a wipe once. I usually ask if there is anything special in the dungeon and let them know that this is my first run at it. Sometimes I even skip the cut scene.
May be good to Google the particular dungeon too just to have an idea what's in there and what to actually kill, although I haven't done that myself yet.
As a rule of thumb I keep in mind to kill everything around the hard to kill boss and let the tank keep the aggro on it. Once nothing spawns any more, let loose on it and kite lots.
