Sadly that is very mild, just wait until you get to Garuda/Titan HM, the bitching and name calling in there is out of this world. I would strongly recommend not to use DF on any of the end game content after you have finished your storyline.

But then again, watching cutscenes makes you a leecher. >.>
... -.- This really makes me sad. I have faith in SE providing us with a decent game over time, but I worry the community will kill the game before then.
Still, they say you can get in trouble for making fraudulent reports, and reporting someone for watching a cutscene would probably qualify. Hopefully some of these people get in trouble. XD

Are CM's CS really that important? I did watch them all the 1st time, most are just silly scripts with your char walking around & random wide camera shots to introduce the place. Only the final boss' CS are story related.

Story-wise, your char is supposed to infiltrate that base, in stealth mode, sneaking in & disable intruder alarms, not getting a whole army to clear everything up inside, so skipping mobs is actually normal...

And btw, I've met a lot of newbies in CM DF who want to watch CS, & I've really never encountered a pt that argue about that, if someone wants to watch, the rest let them watch but keep going without any cursing words, they may get locked out at the bosses but that's pretty fair, since you have the rights to watch CS & the rest have the rights to continue the run. This dungeon can be solo-tanked & solo-healed so it doesn't matter which class got locked out...

I've looked through and have seen people repeating (from both sides of the issue) either make my own group or just watch the cut-scenes anyway. I'm going to explain my reasoning for both so that I can be made clear.

    1. I would love to make my own group with people that I can reasonably trust. The problem with that it there's a bunch of inactive folk in my already small Free Company, so I have to either wait for who we have to get to this point so we can all do it together, or somehow have it grow well enough so that the inactivity wouldn't be a problem. Both options would take time. You may then suggest that I go look for a new Free Company so that I wouldn't have this issue. However, I love the people I talk to and do content with in my Free Company currently. I wouldn't ditch them for something like this. I'm willing to be patient.

    2. If I had stayed in watched the cut-scenes in spite of what that person told me, I would have been put off by the speed-running anyway. I find that taking the fun out of the experience, so I left because it wouldn't have been worth it. I also left because if I had stayed in that kind of situation, I would have inevitably gotten upset. Much more so than I was last night when I made this thread. So, I left in order to prevent that.

I'm sorry, but I honestly don't understand this kind of thinking. Both the other parties in question and you are similarly unwilling to compromise. You're both being childish here. How can you seriously feel more justified than they? Adults put forth effort into resolving the inevitable disparities between individual mindsets; they don't just demonize the other side.

Also, every argument you make about the necessity of relying on duty finder applies to many others as well. Pretty much anyone who has finished CM already will prefer to "speedrun" it, and the vast majority of those are not the hardcore raiding type you probably imagine them to be.

If you had to choose between a million dollars and saving your best friend...what would be the first thing you'd buy?

Maybe one of the new HM Dungeons will be Castrum Meridianum just for this very reason. I too encountered a speed run upon reaching lvl 50 and joining CM the first time, but I didn't care what others said about watching in the Inn room, I watched all the cutscenes at my leisure {was more like a movie though} since their progress kept presenting me with a new CS after the next, and I missed most the bosses, but I didn't mind.

Still though, CM and Praetorium, should never have been made end game farming dungeons...ah well...

Personally, I went through CM and watched the cutscenes. Granted, I made an effort to read the text bubbles as quickly as I could for the sake of my team mates who had already done the instance, but I wasn't bothered by the fact that some were skipping the cutscenes and moving on ahead of me. I was just glad they weren't yelling at me for not doing the same. Here's why:

There are several points throughout the game, including CM, where you're playing an instance that requires a party of 4-8 people to get into. However, in the storyline cutscenes, there are times where the cutscenes imply that you, and perhaps other story NPCs, are the only one(s) there, and leave your party members out of it entirely. Particularly in CM, there are several points where a certain someone breaches a certain something and tells you they'll handle something while you go on, and it's just you on the screen. It's an 8-person dungeon, there's 7 other people with you, I highly doubt all 7 of them just happen to be out of camera shot in each angle.

So there's already a discontinuity by the game's very design, because your 7 other party members helped you get that far, but the cutscenes pretend it's just you. Sometimes an NPC here or a message there acknowledges that you aren't the only adventurer in Eorzea, but these are few and far between. Asking that 7 random people who are complete strangers to both let you watch the cutscenes (reasonable) AND sit there and wait for you instead of moving forward (not so reasonable) just seems like a bit much to me. Letting you watch while they move forward seems like a compromise to me, and a good one. Anything else just seems like bickering between who "gets" the Duty Finder.

Yeah just watch them anyway, they can't stop you. If you get "locked out" of boss fights youll still get credit so whatever.

I simply want to enjoy the content and the story that comes with it in it's entirety, as it was intended. I'm playing a video game after all. I'm trying to enjoy myself. I'm at the climax of the story. I want to enjoy it thoroughly. That's all it is. I'm sorry you don't understand that.

I understand that there are plenty of people who have gone through the dungeon before and would wish to speed-run it. What I don't understand is why they would choose to resort to Duty Finder out of any other method. It's incredibly unreliable when it comes to them wanting to do something like that. There's tons of people who hang out in Mor Dhona or other high-level areas trying to make speed-running groups for it. They can easily do the same. It doesn't make sense for them to use Duty Finder expecting not to run into a first-timer and/or expect first-timers to ruin their own experience for the sake of a speed-run.

It's as though the people who do that have forgotten completely that they've been a first-timer as well. I'm sure a large number of them didn't choose to just skip through all of the mobs and story. Why would they? Why should I?

I'm going to leave it there as I'm getting myself worked up. Hopefully, this made things a little more clear to you.

Ahhh I remember my first run...

It got a little more violent at the end with "Drink bleach and die" and all... but man after reading about it on the forums, I really couldn't believe that the end game players were even more toxic than league players xD...
All I wanted to do was watch the story cut scenes for the first time. Didn't even get to fight a boss because they locked me out but whatever.
