I am not against anyone who is new but some people thinks it's funny to told group they are new when they are not. Maybe they think it's funny to have people trying to explain something they already knew but it surely is annoying.

Yeah I'm not new but was new to AK. I had the hardest time with that dungeon and groups, one tank in a group cussed me out because I was having a hard time and called me stupid. Finally I got a good group that was very patient and worked with me and I/we won it. Don't let others ruin your experience.

Yesterday I ran amdapor keep for the first time, I guess SE took out the 'one or more players are new to this duty' message so I just said hi and we proceeded to run the dungeons. I read a boss guide and watched a vid to help get the mechanics and we blew right through the dungeon in about 40 minutes no wipes. At the end when I entered the final boss room I got my mapping achievement and the rest of the party was like 'holy crap dude this is your first time! Awesome run with you never being here before' we crushed the last boss and they all gave me praise for being so badass on my first run through the dungeon it was kinda nice. Point here is, new people can be just as good as experienced so don't judge a book by its cover.

Yea, I would like to try a tank class, but honestly I'm a bit afraid to due to all the horror stories I've read on the forums.

This is why I tend to play DPS when I'm new to a game, then switch to healing or tank a little later once I have experience. Patient people are just to rare.

I do have a nice story though. Recently I was qued up in the DF, can't remember what dungeon, and after waiting finally got in. The usual "new players in teh dungeon" message came up. So once everyone got loaded , said hi, and finally one person said hey I'm new. Then someone else added, me too. then the third person said me too. Finally I was like, "ditto." All four of us were new and I could tell what everone was thinking, "oh god we're doomed."

Well as it turns out we just decided that, "hey we'll just figure this out as we go. Just don't freak out and be prepared to try things a few times." Much to everyones surprise we had a flawless run. Everyone caught on the the boss mechanics quickly enough and we didn't have one death or wipe. so for the impatient people just remember this. Don't count out the new people. Just becasue they haven't done it before doesn't mean they don't know what they are doing. They may not know the mechanics, but most people know their jobs well enough that they will be picking up on anything they don't know fast. I know I do.

To be honest, I think smooth runs are extremely boring. I also do not understand the "follow a guide" mentality. Figuring things out is way more fun, in my opinion. What is even the point of playing a game if every time you get to the challenging bits you read up on the strategy beforehand? And then whine that the game has no challenging content after you've "beaten it" maybe.
I always welcome players messing things up, that's how you learn. It also spices things up for those who have it on zombie mode. You're actually forced to think! How preposterous. That being said, I haven't gotten to endgame here yet and I mostly play with friends when I'm new to a game, as I know few people see it that way.

Random: A week ago I joined a Satasha group mid-run as an arcanist -the Tank and 1 dps had left. I ended up tanking the dungeon with my Topaz carbuncle. We wiped twice. The most fun dungeon experience I've had in a while, I have to say. <3 to my party .

Yes. I agree with all of this.

I don't mind a few suggestions from someone who has done it before, but I agree about figuring it out for yourself.

But for those who really are worried about letting other people down or the toxic people who feed back into that mentality, I do understand this and why it keeps coming up. Personally I love to go and replay dungeons, especially for the challenge of playing with people who don't have the dungeon down yet. And yes, the most fun runs I have ever had were either failures, or barely succeeding, because people didn't know what they were doing or how to keep up.

I always say if it is my first time and I like it when others let me know if it is their first time too. I queue up for the storyline dungeons on whm to help out sometimes and very often those people have never seen it before or had bad experiences. I won't usually give away how to do the fights and such unless someone asks and generally people figure it out without my handholding anyway. Its always been a good time running and rerunning those early instances.

However just last week my sister and I wanted to do WP and both said it was our 1st time and the DD left in 2 seconds. We are a tank and heals so we just had it fill with another DD and they crabbed when we said 1st time. It baffles me, here we are in all AK and DL gear and you are worried we are going to have problems clearing this?

That's exactly why MMOs constantly have issues with Tanks and Healers not evening out with DDs popularity wise. There's so much pressure for the tank and healer to exceed in their roles whereas the role of a DD is pretty laid back. No one likes dealing with that kind of pressure especially with random groups. This in my opinion needs to change and make it so that the DD role is also equally important.

But it is equally important? Whomever thinks otherwise is talking out of their butt.
