Scholar as healer??

So right now I'm in Haukke Manor, (yes right now, fairy is pretty much auto piloting heals) and the Archer asked who the healer was. The Thaumaturge said I (Scholar) was. And I said I thought I was DPS (since Arcanist is) and the tank proceded to call me "retarded" (duty finder, go figure)
He said my job is to be healer primary, and support. now I know I can heal, but I've been dpsing since getting the scholar job, and have ran dungeons with conjurers and white mages as a scholar.
Am I mistaken in thinking I should focus on DPS first, heals second?
Or is my tank the "retarded" one?

Did you NOT see that big green healer role indicator by your name? what exactly did you think SCH did with a pet? i mean..you did look at her abilites, right?

SMN is the DPS of that trio. SCH is indeed a healer. they just can DOT as well.

Scholar is definitely a healer lol. Not sure how you were dpsing in your groups if you were using the duty finder... It always matches 1 tank 2 dps and 1 healer which you happen to be the healer. Now prior to 30, your class (arcanist) can only queue as dps, but once you become a summoner (dps) or scholar (healer) your role can change.

But if you are saying you were dpsing in your dungeons as a scholar post 30 then you are doing it wrong... very wrong.

Scholar is healer first. Summoner is dps first. This is where arcanist splits, even though they have skills of both. Having both isn't too difficult, and a good way to learn how both work. You also can only queue as a healer in the duty finder when a scholar, upper part of the panel where it says your role. Scholar has pretty good mp, the fairy can do some good healing, and i've seen scholars dps. In higher dungeons though, if you don't focus on healing, lots of wipes. If you want to dps, pick up thaum to level 15, and then summoner, it will take almost no time.

You probably had white mages and conjurers if the group was 8 as those have two healers.

SCH is a healer, SMN and ACN are DPS. You cannot que for DF as SCH for a DPS role, it is impossible so you have not done it. You can however que as ACN which is what you most likely did. If you want to DPS then unlock SMN and play that instead.

reminds me of that blackmage in my party that kept aggroing mobs and when I let him die after the 3rd time his complaint went like this "Why does nobody ever get, that I'm attacking mobs that would attack us anyway??". This is clearly another case of "How someone always manages to make a 4-man group seem like you're trying to organize 40 people" or "4 DDs walk into a dungeon" or "They kept following me" as in "Sorry my ass is so fat, it just involuntarily aggroed these mobs from 600 yalms away". Your misconception puts you in the best company along with those gladiator tanks *press Flash* "There, you see, I totally tanked this group of mobs!" - *2dds and the healer get hit by mobs throughout the fight "Yeah, we can totally see that."

SCH is healer, SMN is DD. If you aren't playing them as such, you aren't playing them to their full potential.

Ok, my bad. ;0 been doing fine keeping it DPS. The fairy does most of the healing anyway which is why I assumed I was to do DPS, but I must've been mistaken choosing ACN and seeing a WHM
PS. Not a troll post. Genuine question, if I was trolling I would've been like Rgbg, I was confused and sought advice. That's all

I'd also like to add in case the OP isn't aware, Aracanist is meant for more solo play while the jobs are more for party play. They can all be played solo or with groups, but jobs give skills and specialization that works better with groups.

I also don't think he's a troll, the mechanics can be confusing for people. It's possible he didn't have the job crystal equipped or wasn't aware of the role spot on the duty finder, or how jobs work.
