Primals Loot: Consider choosing "greed" even if you can "need"

Hey FFXIV community. I just wanted to ask everybody to please consider choosing "greed" even if you can choose "need" when primal loot drops. Why? Well, often other players in the group could benefit much more, but are unable to choose "need" because of how the loot system currently works. This is especially true if you're beating Titan for your relic weapon -- you're going to replace that Titan weapon immediately with the relic, so why not let somebody who could really use it have a shot?

Remember that you can't currently turn these in for seals, so there's not much of a point of grabbing a bunch of them and letting them sit (at least not at the moment).

Thanks for reading, and I hope you take it into consideration next time you're running primals!

I actually thought about this last night after killing Titan. If he dropped his WHM staff I would have passed, but it was the SCH book and it went to our SMN through this method. This was FC party and I wouldn't expect the same out of a DF group.

If you're working on your Relic and are already up to the Titan step I agree it's pointless to take the Titan weapon too. Aside from that, why on earth would you Greed if you could Need it (and it was actually an upgrade for you)? If someone else wants the weapon that badly they can do the fight as the class it's for and hit Need. Asking someone who can use it (and, to be fair, actually benefit from it) to press Greed just because someone else in the group might also maybe be able to use it is silly.

The loot system works fine for Primals. You can't hold more than one of each weapon and you can't Need a weapon that isn't for your current class. That solves more problems than it causes. If you want a weapon for a secondary class just Greed like everyone else and hope you get lucky or go with a pre-made and have them all pass it to you (or go as the class the weapon is for in the first place).

Titan I can understand greeding over needing but for the other 2 primals, if someone wanted loot for another class so badly they should have come in there on the other class. Ifrit and garuda are easy enough at this point with a decent enough group that there can be dead weight, if someone wanted a piece of loot for an off class they have no merit coming in and complaining that someone else chose need for their main set when the other person came in with their offset. I've seen plenty of people at this point who just want to greed on everything whether they have a certain class leveled or not, what would be the reason that someone should have to greed over need something that does not benefit a person who has not leveled said class just so they have a chance at getting it with a greed too?

Titan is a special case, but for the other primals -- I would suggest building a premade group and asking everyone beforehand "Which drops do you want?" I once had some guy agree to come as a tank if he could have the monk weapon, and we all said sure. People tend to be more honorable when it comes to greeding/passing an item in a premade group than in a DF random group where you'll never see the person again. I mean... it sort of makes sense. For example, if a monk queued up for a DF group and another player who was there said he wanted the monk item but agreed to tank for his friend, why on earth would the monk ever pass or NOT need when he could? Make a premade group if you want to have premade rules. Personally, I'll wait to see what others say or are doing before I roll anything. I generally will automatically pass ANYTHING I don't have at 50, but I will greed something I DO have at 50 if there is no one else who really wants it (usually people speak up).

And then what happens when you realize when you could use the little bit of extra resistance when the extreme fights come out?

10 resistance is like 100 dmg atmost(if that). Anyone with their af weapon will laugh at the idea of tossing it aside for a weapon that offers slightly more dmg reduction but gimps their dmg. I'd think(and hope) the new primal difficulty will be with af weps in mind or atleast garuda/titan for dmg needed. The only reason resistances were added to the primal weps in the first place was just as flavor since they don't take away points from any other stats but they offer an insignificant amount of dmg reduction that isn't even worth mentioning.

    This is a ridiculous request.

If I'm doing Ifrit or Garuda it's because I NEED the weapon for my current class. My idea of fun isn't to farm Primals for tomes, so I only do them for weapons.

Meaning I'm absolutely not going to Greed a weapon that I can Need, sorry.

For Titan I can agree with the sentiment of it being useless, though.

I think you misunderstand what I meant. If you need it because it's going to be an upgrade, then that's fantastic, you should hit need. I'm asking people who hit "need" simply because they can to consider whether it could be more useful to somebody else.

What if Extreme Primal will upgrade Titan to better than Relic +1 (otherwise, what's the point of Extreme?)?
