I think if a bard did that much damage raids would consist of a bard walking in, hitting one skill, then walking away with loot.
Im so glad to see so many positive responses about DRGs. I really think DRG is the clutch quarterback of realm reborn. I cant count the number of times Ive kept myself alive or stood as tank after ours died using second wind, life surge, and bloodbath. Or the insane crit damage that alrdy happens alot now add dots, stun, slow, aoe, and range attack! Why wouldnt you want someone who can adapt and be useful in ALL situations?
Idk why OP is hating on dragoons.. Probably just got unlucky and grouped up with some DRGs that went full retard. Lol drg+mantra= awesome
I still dont have relic yet, half DL half AK gear. Currently critting for ~850 on Full Thrust, and a lot of times if I Power Surge Jump I can crit on FT for 850 and then immediately crit on Jump for 850 as well (both 300 potency). I'll even have situations where we are clearing trash and I'll use Dragonfire and crit with 250 potency on most of the mobs that get hit (~700 damage per mob) Definitely huge burst damage.
Our Lifesteal rate is great in fights where we are constantly taking just a little bit of damage (Sear from Ifrit or Demon wall's auto attacks come to mind). Since Bloodbath is % based, our high crit damage really helps us a lot more than it helps warriors. Gives us about 20 seconds where the healer doesn't have to really target us at all unless we get hit by a big attack
I almost gave up playing BRD because someone told me I was wasting time using Feint instead of actual DD'ing (damage dealing). Made me feel like I was playing the job wrong, as others in the group agreed with him.Dragoon actually brings a lot more to the table than people thing. The Feint slow is almost game breaking in some boss fights that are not immune. It turns the Chimera fight into a joke for anyone having problem stunning or silencing the cast time. The slow effects cast, auto atk, and how fast a monster can recast it. Its simply amazing if people fully understand it. So many adds have cast moves that can be lowered.
the funny part is DRG has lower DPS than a LNC though due to Stright shot and raging strikes. but due to Relic weapon and some gear issues it is lower in dps at high endgame, otherwise i would take LNC any day instead of DRG.
Other than that having DRG in team is good, i usually pull one of the adds on garuda from healer which helps alot.

straight shot (barely a DPS increase if at all, weak weak attack, small buff)
raging strikes (very potent CD, but if used on CD it totals to 2.2% dps)
dragoon:
jumps (sadly not overwhemling, if done optimally it will result in about 4% damage at best)
+20 str for equipping the job crystal (~3-5% dps)
but if -nothing- else, the +20 str by itself will outweigh raging strikes in a boss fight, jump, while not shiny, are undoubtedly a dps increase.
now UTILITY-wise a lancer >>>>> dragoon
check post #122 at http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...=1#post1224150 for more actual numbers on lancer vs dragoon
But that utility only works if solo.now UTILITY-wise a lancer >>>>> dragoon

People want us for our high burst, debuffs and limit break, all thing are related to DPS, not utility.
Even more, our best "Utility" is Mantra, and you can get it using DRG and still having best DPS, so there is not point in even argue.
DRG > LNC.
Besides, it would be unwise to think SE will not buff jumps somehow in the future, cause is much needed.
fixed*!
