How exactly am I supposed to aquire mats for leatherworking?

So this is a very newbish question which I guess would make since because I am new to this game, although very familiar with mmorpg's in general. how do I go about getting mats for leatherworking? By that I mean... well take carpenter for instance: to gather wood one would take botany. With leatherworking I am dependant on skins and hides but it seems the way to acquire them out in the world is by killing mobs and acquiring their drops, but the drop rates are far too insufficient to make do for advancing my craft. Am I to rely on the auction house? It would seem odd seeing as how I already have to rely on that for some of the other materials I will need. If that's the case, no biggie. Just want to make sure I am doing it right.

P.S. I am aware my the leather working guild sells mats but that seems only viable for a few tiers.

Pretty much kill and skin the beasts of the land. The plus side is you're doing it anyway as you level, so you accrue the mats automatically.

LTW is one of the more difficult classes (in my personal opinion) to level as it not only requires hunting, but gathering and crafting from other classes as well. I've had to become a Weaver, a Blacksmith, a Carpenter, and a Miner, all to aviod the auction house as much as possible.

    Which is the easiest?
    Looks like Cooking imo.
Tried Weaving, tedious as well at my level 6. Damn lettuce weed thing crafting all the time.

From a non-crafter that briefly looked into all of the disciplines, then gave up:

Cooking seemed the easiest in terms of fewest cross-class reagents. Its recipes do require a lot of ingredients though. It only really needs botany and fishing.
Pretty much everything else cross-classes with everything else. Weaver needs botany, leatherworking, blacksmith or armorsmith, and alchemy. I gave up at about 20-ish. Leatherworker takes weaving, mob drops, alchemy, blacksmith or armorsmith, carpentry, alchemy. Carpenter takes botany, blacksmith or armorsmith, alchemy, weaving and I think leatherworking.

Overall crafting seems to be: (a) do ALL the classes, (b) buy off-mats on the market, or (c) sell everything you can and buy what you wanted to craft instead (this is what I'm doing now).

I usually love crafting but I only want to start with 1 or 2 of them, not everything.

All the crafts become dependent on others somewhere between level 10-15, but for the most part you need fairly small quantities of things from other classes. Unfortunately, sometimes people are only selling them in stacks of 99 >_<. If you have a friend who levels one or two of the other classes and can supply you with those things, it is very helpful.

Personally, I hate cooking. Cooking is very dependent on botany and fishing, though you can skip the recipes with fish.

Not sure how this is possible, so many damn ingredients for all the recipes. Just seems a nightmare to keep track of.

Most crafts get annoying at some level. Take weaving for example. Up until a certain level you can use botany to get most of the mats, then all of a sudden it's diremite farming (which are usually camped by bots). Then after so many levels, you can use botany again, but then right back to farming some other over farmed mobs. :P

Yeah I'm basing it too early. I bet I gotta go and explore later lol. Better have a guildie or someone go ahead and help you out. A Craft LS will be nice too.
Now I think it's pretty cool how we can make a trade with this and all but the fact that I may have to do every single class to get something
is kinda retarded lol. I ain't doing no Botany, tried it in P3 and I hate running around lookin' for a dang sparkling tree.
    Fishing is fine to me.
