Theres fifty thousand DRG. I can't walk anywhere in Uldah without tripping over a 50 DRG. BLM is a bit rare.
Yes, I got a 50 DRG too.

Must just be your server. I don't see that many DRG walking around, aside from myself. And in terms of DPS, I just want to throw this out.
Last Night, i insta-queued as a DRG into Aurum Vale. We made it to the Morbol boss at the end, not knowing how to down it exactly. The part was a PLD, WHM, DRG, and MNK. First 3 times, we wiped because the seedlings hatched and we couldn't down them fast enough. I said screw it... and once he planted them started spamming my AoE (forget the name off hand) and that literally won the fight for us. So DRG is a fairly Strategic DPS. they are great at BURST damage in the same way a WHM is great for burst heals. In short, DRG is more consistent in DPS from start to end given a decent tank to manage enemy direction.
I leveled Dragoon originally. I queue most dungeons and such duo with a WHM. The reason I switched to BLM was that when the other 2-6 people in our DF groups turned out to be awful, DRG did not have the tools to pick up the slack. If tanks were aggro-failing, I couldn't CC (and I've since learned that BLM makes perhaps a better temp-tank than DRG). If we got a lamentable SMN DPS, I struggled to get us to DPS checks -- especially when there was a lot of movement, multiple mobs, or AOE, such as on Demon Wall.
As my partner put it, "it seems like all you can do is herpaderpderp hit things 'til you die". I felt the same way. I think if you're in a good guild and/or have a consistent group, Dragoon will put out excellent DPS and be a lot of fun. For what we've been doing I needed something with a bit more flexibility. In that respect, BLM hasn't disappointed.
Yes, the pole dancing aoe skill is nice, more so if you BfB and drop dragonfire prior for a small burst on aoe damage. Honestly though, those seedlings aren't that hard to kill. Was the mnk in the party usingh is own AoE skills? MNK gets 3, and only 1 of them on a long CD. If he was already AoEing, then you're aoe just was enough to kill the adds coupled with his. Though it might all be a moot point since this is drg against blm and in that fight, if it was a blm, blm AoE probably woulda nuked it even faster.Must just be your server. There is absolutely no evidence to support that statement. Your pathetic, unreliable third party parsers don't work properly with SE's combat logs. So your "undisputed fact" is now currently disputed. There's a fun fact for you. You're also forgetting positional, downtime to AoE abilities, etc.. where a BLM spikes over Melee. Also, there are Coil groups looking for Dragoon's because they are a viable class, as is every other one, and they bring quite the damage buff to a raid, so it's almost stupid not to have one.Not exactly sure where Ricauer gets the idea that DRG "edges out" BLM in DPS. DRG is currently the lowest DPS class in the game, which is an undisputed fact. I'd definitely go BLM over DRG, but agree that Bard is probably your best bet. They're the most popular DPS pickup in end-game raiding. That being said, most coil groups are looking for at least 2-3 bards and 1 BLM. None are looking for DRGs.

That's Coil with a Dragoon, and oh my god they serve a purpose, and didn't fail with such proven low Dragoon DPS.

I believe it is probable that we will see a limited amount of rebalancing of the classes.
Traditionally for balance there is a trade off for dps between damage dealt and squishiness/support ability. Basically you trade a degree of damage dealing ability for the ability to either take more hits or use party support abilities like bard songs.
If and when we do see this rebalancing then I expect BLM to be top dps in terms of raw damage. It's the squishiest so should be putting out the biggest numbers. Also Yoshi is a BLM, can't see him allowing it to be gimped in any way for long.
You are joking me right? I'm on Diabolos and you can't go a single corner with out bumping into a DRG! I mean have you even been to Rev. Toll? Zoom your camera out and you will notice the whole place is more DRG than any other class lol! I can BARELY get into a party (CM, Primals) with out at least 2 DRGs. First LS i got into on diabolos they had 15 DRG, 2 MNKS, 4 WHM, 3 BLM, 1 PLD, 3 WARs, 7 SMN. It was funny when they would fight over gear though. But Diabolos drove me AWAY from being a DRG at all

You really think SE is going to give you the best of all worlds by keeping BRD near top DPS while providing so much utility to the group and being out of harm's way for nearly every encounter? Something's going to give and the easiest fix would be dropping their DPS. Not sure if you were in the beta but this damage buff is relatively new to you guys due to complaints about them not being very powerful. IMO they over corrected it and a fix in the other direction is coming. This should be evident if you've ever played an MMO before.
Take my love, take my land, take me where I cannot stand. I don't care, I'm still free, you can't take the sky from me. Take me out to the black, tell them I ain't comin' back. Burn the land and boil the sea, you can't take the sky from me.
