Actually I did. I played Aion (great release besides the gold spammers), SWTOR, PS2, etc.

I also played a butt load of FREE mmos at release and beta, and it went extremely smooth.

Here's a problem with the whole "Vanilla wow was just as bad!" How many years ago was that? MMOs have learned since then how to properly release an MMO. SE has already dropped the ball once, I would've hoped for a better release here. These server capacity issues should have been anticipated, network load should've been anticiapted, most of these bugs they're fixing should've been found in alpha or beta, and most importantly, they should not be having so many maintenance. If they're actually fixing stuff instead of restarting the servers and calling their ISP and learning how to reset switches, and buying new hampsters to run their building's power, we wouldn't have these issues.

They fixed it, with scheduled maintenance. Are you honestly crying about a 2 hour downtime? Read a book, wait I'm sorry, bust out one of your coloring books and crayons and put up another masterpiece on mommy's refrigerator. You're acting like a spoiled, entitled little brat.

    What's your point?

Here's the thing, contrary to popular belief mmo launches can, in fact 'not suck'. I hate this current mentality of expecting failure and excusing it. Consumers have every right to be angry when a product they pay good money for, does not FUNCTION. No matter how much it bruises your ego.

Square-Enix has no excuse. They knew their preorder numbers, bragged about them. And yet they were caught off guard, after experience with two other mmorpg launches? If these servers were Japanese, they'd be fixed by now. How are they able to keep Japan's servers up and running but now NA/EU? How hard can it possibly be?

Why do the Japanese have twice as many servers than parts of the world with over three times their total population? The USA alone, has three times as many people. Europe has over twice that. And yet the servers for both minimal, and seem to run on AA batteries.

Higher population means what here? You're looking at the wrong numbers. Online gamer population would be the correct statistic here, and I am more than sure Japan has a higher number than the U.S.

Higher population means higher chance of more gamers. If you didn't make assumptions and actually looked it up, you'd see that PapesseLudovique is correct.

US gamer population is over 170million people. How many people live in japan? That number is 127.6 million people.

There's more gamers in the US than there are people in Japan.

I'm not looking up anything, because I'm lazy. Just offered up some advice to him. Ignore total population, and focus on number of online gamers, and then focus on total subbed to FFXIV. If you want to research numbers for me, go ahead. But I award you no points, because you don't have what I like to call the social skills.

It'd be nice if they could fix shit while they have the servers down instead of messing shit up during maintenance 1, and then realize "oops" an hour or 2 later and take them down again. I've played a lot of MMOs, and at least other developers take the time they need to make sure shit doesn't hit the fan later.

Also, all of the whiners whining about whiners are just as annoying as the original whiners, if not moreso.
Wah. You're not paying for "the game" you're paying for a license that allows you to play the game. Think of it as a driver's license. When roads get torn up for repair or maintenance, whether scheduled or delayed, do you go to the DOT forum and bitch and moan about how you can't use the car you paid for?

Haha, I don't have "the social skills". You don't even know me, ol' sport. You've read a possible grand total of 10 (now 11) posts by me, and not even the most educated and skilled professional could determine my ability or personality from forum posts.

Now, it's not my fault that you're lazy, but if you want those numbers then you'll have to get them yourself. I don't care what you want, I gave you a pretty good set of numbers. America has 170 million gamers(that's around 55% of america's population), I would dare say a good portion of them are online gamers (due to the way most games are online these days). Even if Japan was 100% gamers that's 127.6 million people, it's still less than america, and I don't think Japan would be any more statistically online than America. But hey what do I know? I'm only working with statistics here. I'm just saying the chance of america having a higher online gamer population is high.

And I think the fact that We're having overcrowding issues and the need for SE to completely halt sales of their game speaks volumes of our FFXIV population in America/Europe.

I honestly don't even know why you're arguing that we have less players than Japan when Japan has plenty of room on their servers. *shrug*

Woah there sparky! When did I say anything about my entitlement to play a game that I paid for?
I did not mention anything about "I'm not getting what I paid for"
All I did was express displeasure at the lack of fixing problems.

Your example makes absolutely no sense.

The reason people are complaining about "I'm not getting what I paid for" Is simply because when you buy something, you do have an entitlement to be able to use that product (unless it is illegal, which is a totally different story). A proper example of buying a game that you can't play is buying a new car and having mechanical problems. That car should've been inspected and properly fixed before selling it.

I am aware that we all agreed to a EULA, so I'm not disagreeing that SE has the right to remove the game at any point in time. I have no gripes with that. I have gripes with their inability to fix their product and make it work properly so they don't HAVE to shut it down every few days.
