I did read, and even as i said, i'm level 17 or 18 before that point, and i STILL have stuff to do. the problem is, people don't manage activities in the game properly. I bet if anything, he hasn't really touched his hunting log, at all.


And OP, if you're having that much trouble with the gargoyle, here's how you beat it.

Stand still, and just attack. Don't sleep him or stun him, ever. just stand there and attack it. If you run and try to kite, he'll poison you. If you sleep or stun him, he'll poison you. if you stand there and just wail on him, he wont poison, at least never more then once. Very easy fight, Just do that, and when he's close to death, help will arrive and kill him, then it's you and your help against the mage by himself.

About the level15 quest being the bottleneck: unless you clear that, you don't get official access to the other city states, which in turn also means that all quests past level15 don't show up.

No need for all the hate, OP is clearly a new player. Few things to know: there are various ways to get EXP and they're all explained by the storyline. At your level, you have a few options available to you: guildhests (you get two every 5 levels and they give huge exp/gil the first time you do them), FATEs (which you probably know about already), and hunting log (you'll be assigned monsters to kill which give a nice EXP bonus). After a few more story quests, you'll unlock the first dungeons and a lot more world to explore.

Now when it comes to the story quest you're stuck on. As others have said, keep the Gargoyle away from the Masked Man, and the latter will not attack you. When fighting the Gargoyle itself, you need to know a few things. First, sometimes he'll use an AoE (area of effect) ability. You'll see a red circle appear at his feet. He won't move while it's casting, so get out of that circle ASAP, or you'll take unnecessary + big damage. Also, he can be slept! If you need a breather, feel free to sleep him and back up and rest up for a bit. Sleep has diminishing returns, but the first two casts will net you 30s and 15s of peace respectively. That's a lot. Once you have it hurt a certain amount, an NPC will come and provide backup, and you should be fine.

Basically with the Mage fight.
Ignore Mage.
Focus the thingy.
Spam all day everyday.
Fire fire till MP dry, Transpose, Blizz Ice whatever all day.
AS SOON AS HE POISONS YOU, POP AN ANTIDOTE.
They nerfed this instance actually, you only need that one antidote and you're done.
I tried this as a CNJ and never had to heal.
You will get "Friends" to help you with the mage and he's cake. Good luck.

And for future reference i am a complete noob to this game and I did the quest using only 1 (80hp) healing pot.

That AoE you mention, doesn't do jack for damage, unless you're still using starting game equipment. And sleeping him, will force him to poison you, running from him, will force him to poison you.

Stand still, and just attack, that's all you need to do.

Get used to this, when you level your 2nd class you will have no quests since they can only be done once per character, so better get used to gridning fates or doing leves if you actually wanna level a 2nd char. This game is not a quest hub game, it seems like one at first, until you get a char to 50, then decide to level something else up. When you do this you will relize there is no more content, since square never really thought ahead. SO yeah join a fate party, fate grind, because damn, its all your going to be doing on the 2nd combat class you decide to level. The fact the game is like this makes me not wanna level a 2nd class, fate grinding is horribly boring, I'd rather have some random quests from npcs for every class just to do in between a fate or something, insted of just running from fate to fate.

Also the endgame sucks, all you do is farm the same boring as hell dungeons over and over for stones to get gear.

Overall the hardest thing in this game is probally finding people are aren't complete braindead morons to actually do stuff with, I see so many level 50's that are just so damn bad at the game, that it blows my mind how its even possible. Its all common sense stuff to: Stay out of the red, focus fire targets, try to stun dangerious attacks, and well play your class right, 90% of monks and dragoons for a prime example have no idea what they are doing on their class, if you have a monk or drg that is just standing there hitting the mob in a party, they aren't playing it right, since they need to constantly weave from the targets side to back for positionals to do their real dps, and most just seem too lazy to bother.
