So.. Yeah. While I understand the why.... And yours is the overall nicest post about the subject I have seen. I don't really agree with hard requirements, or this attitude people have about having to "be ready" the first time (or first few times really), in general. I enjoy trying do things beyond me, even knowing they may be beyond me.

If I jump into a dungeon and I am not ready, so what? I learn, next time I queue up better. That is what gets me about this constant issue being brought up. I know there is a sound reason for having reasonable lowest level recommendations.. But I do know that in solo monster hunting, I can be in gear 15, at level 30, and take out something level 40. It requires lots of tries, and practice.

So making it impossible to do, bothers me. Should people be prepared so as not to let down others? In general yes. But if someone wasn't ready, whether it was due to skill or equipment, why is such an issue for people? Sure, suggest politely that it may go easier in better gear, but why is this so horrible to so many people that someone who hasn't done something before doesn't know the best way to manage the situation? If you really care about winning every time, or having easy fights every time, shouldn't you be playing with a pre-made group?

And maybe someone joins who has done it before, is under geared, but knows they can pull their own weight. Is that okay? I am guessing not judging by the reactions people have, and that saddens me.

Nope, it's totally viable to win with that (w/ lv50+ weapon).

Under geared means waaay obviously undergeared, not "my gear isnt' great, but i'm not utterly jeopardizing the mission."

Item levels won't always work, I've had jackasses come in full level 50 gear, ones with +crafting and control or gathering.

You don't have a say in who queues for Garuda if you use the duty finder, deal with it or make groups of your own

I'm glad to see the OP wasn't unreasonable in this thread. I've seen far to many of these by elitist that expect you to have full darklight before attempting Garuda. But you've got the right of it OP. People need to at least upgrade their weapon and get a few pieces of dungeon gear.

For me, my buddy (who heals) and I (PLD tank) got a couple of pieces of gear each from AK and I spammed Ifrit about 7 times for an Ifrit sword (buddy got his weapon first try... T_T ). You don't need Darklight, but people do at least need most of their gear to be between ilvl 50-55, 60 if you want to be safe. Otherwise your DPS is simply not enough to take out the adds and if you're tanking the healers won't be able to keep up with spike damage.

I try to keep my gear current for my level as best as I'm able... except for anything with the word "subligar" in it. I just have zero desire to see my male Miqote in a leather banana hammock.

I was about to type a whole string of nonsense to OP but he is right. Seen ppl running in bikinis, full white gears below lvl 30 doing lvl 50 contents. It is ok for dungeon runs as a dps but pls don't do it when you are the tank/healer or doing primals.

Had a group in full AF with gc weapons and level 30 accessories on everyone but me. Nobody talked the whole time. Killed her on first try without any issues beside having to go the round 3 times. Gear is less required than most people think. There is a lot of tricks you can use to get in more damage between adds. I understand the point of this post though but I honestly have to say that the people with bad equipment play 5 times better than the dark light guys on my runs.

jewel dont need to be HQ, the lvl 49 are what you can get as pre-mature lvl 50, however you do need ilvl55 or ilvl60 as minimum and those can get via GC (ilvl55 green), ifrit (ilvl60 blue) & AK (ilvl60 green)
