Reading this I now realise I've been VERY lucky with matchmaking. My friends weren't so fortuned...

They're leveling some 20 something characters and queued for a dungeon. Their healer would -not- use anything but Medica, even when only one person is taking hits. He wouldn't even move within range of the tank to cast it! He left eventually, and they 3 manned the rest of the dungeon.

    One question, though:
(everything that drops in there is for tanks almost exclusively :/ )
Any website that shows the drop lists? I haven't had any luck finding one.

Here's a link to the loot list from Brayflox(not sure about looking up other dungeons on that site).

There are caster items that drop as well, but as of last night it took 21 runs to get the caster set there. I wish the site would show the drop rate of the items to show you what I mean. That Calvary Cuirass for tanks dropped everytime except for the last run.

People may say it's a matter of perspective but having run every dungeon multiple times I can say that a rare few dungeons drop caster gear regularly. Otherwise it's been a majority of DoW gear.

I had a group where a lancer think he is the tank, the tank think he is a dps and me as the healer is the actual tank in the group. Still got the instance done though.

I got one - and this isn't a tank fail, it's my fail. To whoever was on my team, mea culpa.

So, I've been bouncing between Summoner and Scholar just to get a feel for the different jobs and see which one I like better. The third time I queue up for a dungeon as SCH, it's Aurum Vale (my first two dungeon runs as SCH were Stone Vigil runs, where I did pretty well - so, y'know, of course I feel confident in going to the next level).

We get to the first boss, and ... I honestly don't know what happened, but I just couldn't keep up with the damage output. Yes, everyone on the team went to grab fruit at two stacks. Tank was managing hate. DPS was keeping out of AoEs and doing fine.

Meanwhile I'm trying to juggle my pet's abilities (I manually cast them instead of putting Eos on autopilot) with my own and I fumble my targetting ("Wait, I ... healed myself, not the tank") or accidentally cancel my ability as I run back to eat fruit on the second stack. On top of that, Eos dies because at the time I didn't realize you could use the "Place" command to keep her from running over the acid and Swiftcast+resummon ate too much of my MP and I bottomed out each time we tried the fight. I miss the other party members with Succor after the Morbol's room-wide AoE attacks because I misjudged its radius, wasting even more MP and time. Basically, it was the first fight I had that really tested my healing abilities, and I screwed up.

This is something that I'll admit I screwed up on and try to improve my play in the future - I just feel so bad for feeling like I screwed things up and knowing it was my fault, y'know?

I also screwed up my run today, in Brayflox on the last boss. Ive done him fine previously, but today, the combination of bad lag, tank getting hit by that big frontal attack occasionally and random interrupts for no reason, we wiped over and over. It was my fail (mostly, some of it was the tank constantly moving oor even when he didn't need to), but it was one bad run. I know I'm not an atrocious healer despite that, although i dont blame them.

I got what i needed out of that instance anyway, so :P on them

Decided on a whim (at level 35) that I wanted the full Battlemage set, seeing as I already had feet, hands, and hat I really only needed pants and top (ignored belt for whatever reason). So to "maximize" my time spent I decided to only run dungeons in progress.. This is where I realized my mistake. As it turns out, dungeons in progress are usually missing healers because of horrendous tanks, notice I said usually.

I had some great parties, and some HORRRIIBBLLEEE tanks. I'm talkin terribad. Really was about to give up till I joined a party, 5mins left, last boss, it was rush in or back out. I took my chances. Tank ate 4 of Aitar's breath attacks in a row, and apparently didn't understand that it healed off of the poison pools. Finished with under 15s to spare, and low and behold, my top, the final piece I needed dropped. I was the only mage ;].

Level 37 now, halfway to 38 and praying I don't decide I want something as badly from Cutter's Cry.

It took me quite a few parties in the Sunken Temple of Qarn to get my party through the dungeon; mind you it wasn't always my fault (as tank weren't all that great and dps doesn't know how to avoid AoE) I had a tough time dealing with the AoE from the second boss and lasers from the final. It took me 6 parties and some practice off on my own to really nailed down positioning myself and dodge effectively. Funny thing is, when I finally cleared, I was in a Duty Finder group with a newbie tank and one newbie dps. They thought it was tough but didn't realized how incredible it was to be able to clear this dungeon the very first time with plenty time to spare.

My recommendation to a lot of new healers out there (I played FFXI for 5 years and was a DRK/THF and RDM/WHM), especially for this dungeon, is keep yourself alive first then tank. Too many of us focus on healing others but not ourselves.

Having to tell my healer, "Relax with the heals" because he was casting cure the moment I initiated the first fight, instantly pulls aggro, so now it's chicken with a head cut off running around to try and grab them all back to me, all the while he's casting cure like it's on a damned macro to initiate the moment GCD expires (and I mean he was casting it back-to-back - at no moment was I ever less than 75% health, and often near 100%), saying after the fight, "Relax with the heals..." and before I could type out the next bit of what I intended, "... let me pick up aggro, pop a flash, and drop around 50% before you heal" because I thought it was pretty obvious he was a noob, but it turned out he was just an idiot. "dont tell me what to do" was his response.

    Fantastic...

    (less than dramatic conclusion)

Initiate second fight, he doesn't heal at all (I assumed partway through the fight he probably wasn't going to), let's me die intentionally, and then the moron thinks him and the 2 DPS will be alright with 3 mobs, while he casts Medica, draws aggro, and almost instantly dies.

At that point, I didn't really feel bad about telling him he was an idiot, and to enjoy waiting another 30 minutes for a group (on a JP server, no less!)

Boy, that sure is funny, too. JP server, and he's already pissing off the few people he can communicate with, and the Japanese sure as HELL won't be having any of his incompetence, let alone his stupidity after.
