I would think he'd know since he composed for FF I-IX and some of X. As far as the environments, the various themes do fit them nicely, aside from Mistbeard Cove, unless they are going to add some hidden pirate base down there. Black Shroud could've used a more classic Final Fantasy style forest theme as well...and of course some dungeons could use added music, at least in certain sections.
The music thats here is good, they just need to get Uematsu to compose more themes for different areas (dungeons, hamlet villages, special NM battle themes, etc.)
EDIT: Actually looking at Mistbeard Cove's map, the music fits perfectly: There are several areas that show that it's most likely going to be used as a kind of pirate base. Sections of the map are labeled as - Kitchens, Arms Hold, Plunder Hold, Salt Hold, Slophouse, etc.
