I've been on Odin since early closed beta... I've never seen anyone RPing or even any mention of RP, other than once. Someone (maybe even the OP) mentioned it in shout chat in Coerthas, only to get loads of hate shouted back. I'm not for or against RP, don't really care either way, but I only mention it for players like Toad Mog who said they chose Odin specifically for that reason.

RP = Roleplaying. Wikipedia article here. From that, I'd say the roleplay you do as an mmorpg roleplayer is more like the live action rpg - basically, we make up a background story for the characters we're playing, and act as those characters on given occasions. Roleplayers in mmorpg:s aren't always in character (IC) but tend to be out of character (OOC) when questing, busy with crafting/fixing gear and the like - things that their character maybe wouldn't actually be doing. If you're unsure if people are roleplaying or not, don't hesitate to ask! Most of us are happy to involve you or at least explain what the heck we're doing.

You can always join the Final Fantasy XIV Roleplayers: http://finalfantasyxivroleplayers.enjin.com/. I'm not sure how much of the forums are visible to non-members, but there you can find more information - like, who are roleplaying at Odin, what linkshells or free companies you can join and the like. On Wednesdays there are tavern nights (info on forums) where you can try it out, learn more and meet other roleplayers.
