    Grind?

Maybe it's because my main class was an Archer (They get the movement song), but I never really needed to "grind" for the seals, and in fact felt it wiser to just participate in any Fates you happen by while you continue to do quests and the main storyline. Maps don't really get so large that a mount is absolutely necessary (The only one I've found is the southernmost section of South Thanland), so it really doesn't put a hamper on the speed at which you level.

It is up to individual interpretation. To me, it is a grind, and as such i referred to it as a grind. /shrug

Took me no time at all, I was able to have my mount almost immediately upon hitting 20 from the Hunting Log and FATES are very easy to get "Gold" everytime unless you arrive super late.

Definitely a bit of a grind, but the main story quest leads you right into it.

I am astounded how many people don't bother doing their main quest. It unlocks a good 2/3 of the content in the game. Sure you can go from 1-50 with only doing the main quest up to the point where you are allowed to explore. But that is really dumb to me.

Questing XP is essential for your first class. Once you hit 50 you can go without. But you should never skip your main quest.

I am afraid you are mistaking ''leads you right into it'' with ''leads you to the general area''.

That is because it isnt apparent that it is in fact important. There is no in-game notification that ''this is important, therefore you must do this'' like a lot of things in this game. The game makes quite a lot of assumptions on new players - so much so you would not believe how often ive had to explain how to get a Chocobo to people, simply because it isnt shown to players.

You will no doubt disagree with me, but this game needs quite a lot of explanation for new players. I know this from personal experience. I have never played any multiplayer Final Fantasy game before this one. So i knew NOTHING. Endless questions, google searches and digging through these forums have provided me the information - simply to be able to PLAY this game.

Most MMO's need no real explanation. You create a character, collect/accept quest, cast spell to kill quest objective, return/hand in quest and that is all. Repeat that until you hit max level. There are lots of things in this particular game that are very new to the whole genre of MMO's. This is a good thing yes, but a lot of it requires explanation - which this game does a really poor job of teaching to new players.

I got all my seals in about 3 hours, without really noticing.

If you go to Upper La Noscea, you can find 2-3 monsters (Coeurl Pup and the Kobolds) in the hunting log, as well as 3 easy FATEs in the lower area. IIRC, you get about 400 seals per monster in the hunting log, and 40-100+ per fate.

It's the place with the big skeleton. You can also pick up two parts of the scale armour set and the baby bat minion in the same area.

This is not a "grind" at all - you can get your mount in one short afternoon of causal playing. Wait for a REAL grind when you'll try to level your companion chocobo to lvl 10 ...

Once again, i disagree. For me personally, along with many friends in the game, it was in fact a grind. So, for this thread that i have created, i refer to it exactly what it was to me - a grind.

I think perhaps knowing how to do it quickly is the difficult part, so your guide is definitely gonna help people. Once you've got that nailed though, it's quite a short, simple process.

The Grand Company hunting log is a great place to start.
