That is because it isnt apparent that it is in fact important. There is no in-game notification that ''this is important, therefore you must do this'' like a lot of things in this game.
When you first load into the game in the instanced starting area, the first (and only) quest available is the start of the main story. You must accept and complete this quest prior to being allowed to leave the instance. That fact, coupled with the main story quests having a distinct section heading in the quest journal, should be enough to indicate that it is important.

On completing the main story quest swearing allegiance to your Grand Company, you are told by the NPC that you have earned a mount, and you are directed explicitly by dialogue with this NPC on who to talk to and what to provide to obtain this mount.

It takes time to get to this point in the quest line, and a little more time to get the seals required, but the argument that it is not readily apparent what you should be doing to unlock this or any other feature of the game doesn't really stand up.

Sorry, but evidently - which many many people can attest to - it is not. Sorry.

I got all my seals in about 3 hours, without really noticing.

If you go to Upper La Noscea, you can find 2-3 monsters (Coeurl Pup and the Kobolds) in the hunting log, as well as 3 easy FATEs in the lower area. IIRC, you get about 400 seals per monster in the hunting log, and 40-100+ per fate.

It's the place with the big skeleton. You can also pick up two parts of the scale armour set and the baby bat minion in the same area.

This is not a "grind" at all - you can get your mount in one short afternoon of causal playing. Wait for a REAL grind when you'll try to level your companion chocobo to lvl 10 ...

Once again, i disagree. For me personally, along with many friends in the game, it was in fact a grind. So, for this thread that i have created, i refer to it exactly what it was to me - a grind.

I think perhaps knowing how to do it quickly is the difficult part, so your guide is definitely gonna help people. Once you've got that nailed though, it's quite a short, simple process.

The Grand Company hunting log is a great place to start.

Of course it was a grind for you, you were grinding low level fates instead of fates at your own level and doing the Grand Company hunting log after you ran out of Guild Leves, 2000 seals isn't very much when you consider the fact that maxing out a grand company takes about... 44k seals, and that's if you never buy anything else with them except promotions, which still isn't actually that much, since the first hunting log gives about 2k seals, the second gives about 10k, and the third gives about 20k.

Thank you, OP. I do enjoy playing through all the main story quests and side quests and am sure I will get the chocobo eventually, but, as a new player it can be very confusing to figure out how to do some simple things in the game, this list helps to clarify things.
