This. I know a couple people who use the easiest passwords in the world for everything they have. From gaming accounts to bank accounts, its sad really.People are not getting "hacked' they are screwing up some how and falling for a phishing scheme or somehow getting a trojan. Another common thing is they use their game account password for other website/games, or they have a really stupid password. Get an authenticor if you can and don't be stupid on the internet.

Spend the weekend to investigate your PC for a trojan.

I'm only playing on PS3, and browse the forums on my ipad... Not sure how they get my password.
ive played a lot of MMOs, and none have i ever seen so many actual characters being used as spammers. its pretty common for sites to get breached, shit happens and you cant expect everybody to know that.People are not getting "hacked' they are screwing up some how and falling for a phishing scheme or somehow getting a trojan. Blaming a person for their account getting hacked is like blaming a girl for getting raped. I agree that there were probably things that I could have done to keep my password from getting taken, I shouldn't have to.
That being said, I assume SQEX will fix me up, it's just gonna take time.

I am uncertain how common it is, but when SWToR came out, the same thing happened to a lot of users right after the release.

Very bad analogy actually. And yes, you should have to if you want your account secure. There's only so much SE can do on their end, part of it is the user's job to keep it secure. If it was SE's servers getting hacked and the information obtained that way, then it would be on them. In fact, whether they "fix you up" or not, they're going to tell you to do just those things, such as use an authenticator.Blaming a person for their account getting hacked is like blaming a girl for getting raped. How is it a bad analogy? I was the victim of a crime, just like a girl who was raped, a person who was robbed etc.Very bad analogy actually. There is always something the victim could have done to decrease the likelihood of the crime happening, but at the end of the day the criminal is responsible, not the victim.
Inn the end, yes the criminal is responsible. But there's a number of differences, a lot being things outside SE's control and mostly in the user's control(Not saying any of these apply to you, but they are common):How is it a bad analogy? 1) Easy passwords - A lot of people use very simple passwords that are easy to guess or crack
2) Keyloggers/Trojans - Visiting some sites or downloading some software can infect a user's system, allowing an outside entity to gain their credentials
3) Using the same password - A lot of people use the same username/password for a number of accounts, including fan sites. If an FFXIV fan site gets compromised they are sure as heck going to try all the username/passwords they got on the game.
I've never been hacked in over 10+ years in any game. Why? because my password is not easily guessed, and I don't give out my info. I also don't download random crap on the internet. Getting hacked is more like going on vacation, leaving your house unlocked. Then wondering why half your things are gone when you come back.
