I wish everyone would stop with "gear makes you good" attitude. It's a cop-out.

Gear is necessary but not sufficient. Skill is the same. Necessary but not sufficient. You can't "out skill" a DPS check if your gear only lets you hit 130 when you need to be doing 180.

Gear doesn't make you good, but you need gear to beat the encounters. Why people are willing to ignore this and wail about player skill, like they're god's gift to FFXIV (or any MMO) is something I've never understood.

Skill doesn't prevent you from getting 1shot by unavoidable area wide aoe hits. Skill alone won't make it possible for you to hit the DPS threshold to take down the heart in time.

True, but until we see what the restrictions will be it'll be anyone's guess. If they allow people in with full AF and some lower level accessories then obviously the encounter can be defeated without needing the best gear available.

That said, I agree with everything you said. I'm mainly pointing out the people who blatantly refuse to party with people just by examining gear and not giving them a chance. Which is what a lot of people are doing.

It's not another players job to hep someone who doesn't help themselves. A few Wanderer's Palace runs go a long way.

You assume I'm only referring to people who don't want to put forth any effort, but while true, a lot of people who legitimately need help won't get it because people assume they either won't help themselves, or are bad because their gear is bad therefore the person must be bad. Too many bad apples spoiled the bunch so to speak on bith sides.

There are people who want to be carried through everything, but there are just as many who legitimately need help and can't get it for various reasons. They stay undergeared because there are more people who ignore them/won't help vs people willing to help.

You can say those people need to join a FC, but what if they don't play during prime time or aren't on when there are FC people to help or are lone wolfs who depend on the community and pugs? It's not their fault they're alone...at least not 100% their fault. We can go back and forth all day, but I think we're both right. Just depends on which person you are and who you play with.
