I agree. However, in WoW, no one goes around running with anything less than uncommon quality (green) items, which is the standard for quest rewards; whereas in FF XIV the standard is indeed basic quality (white) items, which pretty much everyone uses through their leveling (notwithstanding a few dungeon drops and lv50+ gear). So I wager there'd be no such limitation in our case. Hopefully, indeed!

Well, for what it's worth.. the example Yoshida gave in that live letter I linked back on page one uses Artefact gear as an example of something could be used in the system.. so there's that.

Transmog was a horrible system. Even if they don't end up charging gil for you to apply the 'skin' to your item of choice, which I bet they will, there are far better systems out there that given players more flexibility and satisfaction. That said, even games like TERA and Aeon used a 'skin'/transmog system, so it is probable. Let's just hope they go with (or reconsidered) something a little more player friendly.

Yes it is a horrible system, I'm not sure why SE decided to go with that. I would have preferred a system like in Rift where gear placed in the vanity slots are displayed rather than your stat gear. Rift even has multiple vanity load-outs which you can change ad-hoc without changing your stat gear.

Yes RIFT was definitely one of my favourite systems. I'm pretty sure in WoW your items had to be a certain level in order to be eligible for transmog'ing too; Maybe SE are unaware that people actually want to mix up the look of their gear throughout the levelling process, not just at level 50? A vanity system with lots of restrictions kind of defeats the purpose of it. :\

I support this 100%. I played DCUO for a while and one of my favorite things was having my villain look exactly the way I wanted him to while still having the best gear equipped. It was always fun running around getting different style pieces to add to my collection so I could tweak my style or just play dress up for a lil while.

would be best to just use the easiest way for something like that.
2 slots for every part you can equip. slot 1 goes your stat stuff, slot 2 goes whatever you want to wear visibly.

or a tab system like in lotro..

    it's so simple, really...
