    That they were probably multitasking or just plain old goofing off when they were doing this. Thus the buffet claims another victim.

    So I am for the Auto-attack solely for the purpose of I hate spamming button mashing my keyboard to do a basic attack... I hit the 1 key so often it makes me sick...

    You could move it to another key if that makes you feel better or making a macro that way you have to press alt or ctrl and a key to use it, two buttons!!

    The fact that you are mashing the button has little to do with the battle system, it has more to do with them giving you decent sp for fighting easy monsters.
    there is no job that i played where button mashing is the most effective form of combat. you were playing wrong, but they are changing the system, so no real reason to learn how to play now. Infact the new system may favor whatever style of play you have. I have the sneaking suspiscion its going to suck though. I think he mentions in chinese interview its going to be more like ffxi, which honestly was a pretty boring battle system, especially once you take out macroing, oh i hated it, but it was something to do in battle besides wait for tp and weaponskill.

    i am only against auto attack due to multiple classes have multiple different basic attacks. for example what will they use as auto attack for pug? when i play pug i use 3 different attacks as my basic attack. i use heavy strike/ flurry/ pummel. the heavy strike must be used to be able to use flurry, but i will also use pummel if i am trying to build tp faster. i rarely use my basic/default light strike or whatever it is on any class i play so i hardly ever use a battle spam. if they initiate an auto attack i would hope that we could continue to use the basic attacks if we wished and only used the auto attack if we went a certain length of time without initiating an attack function.

I admittedly don't know how it will work in XIV, I never liked it at all - unless I wanted to get up and make a sandwich while farming "Too Weak" mobs. I like a system that's more interactive and rewards players for being attentive. We'll see what comes, won't we?

    Though, I'd love to have a preview before hand. I don't want to ask too much of the devs, though. I know they're busy making things "better" or at least "bigger."
    I thought the battle system was fine too, I just thought it needed to be more responsive. But what I want doesn't matter, it's what the majority wants. We're not sure if they're just adding only an auto-attack or not, if they were just doing that then that would suck. But we should hear something soon about the battle system.

    Assuming where? It was explicitly stated that they have a lead battle designer and that Yoshida wanted to get him to post some info for us in his next letter.

    EDIT: Oh yeah it's called scenario designer. By the way, you can check the credits in-game.

    What I am saying is just to do a basic attack you have to hit a key over and over again... It's annoying to perform a basica attack like that. I like the idea of different attacks to switch between, I enjoy that and I like the engaging of the XIV system... but I think I should only have to hit heavy strike/light strike/pummel and the 0 point skills 1 time and it auto attacks that move till I hit another action button and when I want to do that basic attack again I hit that key 1 time, not 5 times so I can do 5 heavy strikes or the pummels just to get attack, it is very tedious.

    yeah if it were just like an option you could click on or off that would be cool, but they implied you will need auto attack in the new system.
    the concept of auto attack, in how i see things lowers tactical play. Self buff skills, reactionary combat, movement in battle and varied basic attacks, it all works against these things. Think about ffxi, you had to turn around, to try to not hit a mob in important moments, or put away your weapon. On next hit skills, sometimes got wasted inbetween multiple buffs, before you say make it so only skills can be buffed, there are times where you want your next regular attack to have whatever buff.
    Of course this all remains to be seen, but any system where auto attack is a required mechanic is going to have some serious issues with the skills and playstyles almost every DoW has. Its not impossible to work out, but we ll see
