This smells like p2w. You have a p2p game, do not kill it with a store.

How is it pay to win?
Would changing my character appearance suddenly give me an advantage that I didn't have before?
The premise of this thread is for the ability to edit our appearance again at a cost.
What we are NOT saying is; "Yoshi, give me EXP boosters".
One thing will lead to another, that's how it starts.

True as that may be, an option to change your characters race and such things is strictly not pay to win.
I'll object when they start charging for stuff like exp boosts, special mounts/pets, cashshop vanity gear, and things like that. Character redesigns and server transfers aren't game breaking nor do they bring any exclusive content to buyers. You need to set reasonable boundaries.

The problem is p2w is subjective as is what is "reasonable", I have seen this in other games people saying blablabla it not p2w, it doesn't affect others and then 2 years later the same people are bemoaning the xp stones, raid timer bypasses etc etc and claiming it's p2w and wondering why there has been remarked decrease in people actually partying together.
Slippery Slope, this is a p2p game lets leave it at that. This is not to say I am against these things some of you want, I just want it added in an intelligent fashion, I never played WOW and never will because p2p and cash shop= equals no no and it's people that encourage this kind of thing which has led to truly subpar games like Neverwinter, STO etc etc.
Add these thing but make it content we will get access to via our normal MONTHLY SUB like it should be.

the thing with the games you listed is that none of them are actually P2P games -- they've been marketed as F2P cash shop from the get-go. you say you never played wow and that's kind of ironic, as that game is probably the closest example of a cash shop done right, where the only items it offers are cosmetic things that have zero effect on gameplay. selling character recustomization is completely harmless and isn't going to all of a sudden lead to B2W. it might lead to mounts/minions you can buy with real cash, but nothing significant to your gameplay experience. this isn't a f2p MMO so the devs don't need to nickle and dime you with some mandatory cash shop -- they're already getting their subscriber's money each month.

Maybe for Neverwinter, I threw that one in there because it's recent, but STO did not start off as a F2P game neither did DDO or Swtor etc etc and look where those have gone.
Like I said there will always be someone to say it's not p2w to them because it is just XYZ but to another that XYZ may be p2w. For example if your the kind that wants to enjoy owning every type of pet or mount yet some are cash shop only it then becomes p2w for that type of player.
For me if I pay a sub it's because I want to have access to ALL the CONTENT available with out being nickle and dimed, that includes things like storage, pets, mounts, cosmetics etc etc. IF any of this not available via my monthly sub then wth am I paying for?
If I am going to have to pay via a cash shop for these things even though I am already paying a monthly sub they might as well turn this into a f2p game because that is what it will be in my eyes no matter how it is worded or how they try to "spin it" to me.
You know some f2p cash shop games start out okay but they all gth eventually and worse thing is they use the same excuse that the items are not necessary to play the game or complete it etc, it's only for "convenience". -Slippery Slope

I'd like to place at least a bit of trust in them.
For all the speeches that Yoshi-P has done about 'not going free to play' and keeping the game on a subscription model, I'd say you'll have no worries about Cash Shop game breakers.
As this game doesn't have investors, it's coming out of the companies pocket, they don't need to make a quick buck off of items such as the likes Guild Wars 2 offered. There is no-one demanding a return on their investment, the long haul of subscriptions (should numbers stay high) would cover the development for this game and beyond over a long period of time. FFXI is the perfect example, the profits from subscriptions made Square Enix filthy rich.

Wow...just wow...You think it is P2W to change the way your character looks.
P2W is getting stats or game advantages. It is getting XP boosts or gear that gives a TACTICAL advantage within the game. Changing your character's look or name is a BASIC MMO service, and does NOT involve a "shop" of any sort. It also does not create any advantages at all in the game.
In the world you live in, you believe that people should NEVER be allowed to go to the store and get new clothes. You believe that once we have a look we have to remain that way forever. You believe I am not allowed to go get my hair cut or re-styled. I am not allowed to get a new tattoo or piercing. I am not allowed to go to a surgeon and get a skin redo because of that nasty scar I got from a bicycling accident. I am also not allowed to change my name in your world.
Okay . . . enjoy your bubble . . .
I think my character looks awesome, but I really do support having the ability to change that once in a while. later on they may add a hairstyle or something into the game and it'd be neat to get access to that without having to create a new character to enjoy it. One of the biggest thing I am lobbying for is name changes as well. Name and look changes go hand in hand.![]()
