If people weren't in such a rush to get to the level cap within 2 weeks of launch, they might actually enjoy the game a bit

I agree. If you stick to just one class (and not get distracted)...2 weeks is all it takes to hit 50. The real challenge comes while leveling other classes when there are no side quests, main scenarios and guildhest xp to boost your leveling.
THIS^^
I played with a great bunch of guys until release, then we couldn't get in to game. So of the 200 or so in the FC maybe 25 got in and never logged out, by the time we could actually get in, they were moving on 50, had already maxed some crafters and were doing the relic grinds.
Before all this in the phase 2 and 3 beta's it was great, everyone helped everyone, after this time we weren't allowed to contact the crafters or gatherers even though we had sent them many shards and materia. Greed doesn't flow with me.
You can play your hard core crap all you want, but I will be riding past you at level 50 while your sitting on your rear waiting for new content. Just like what happened in FFXI sit around the fountain all day.
