Paladins are tanks not DPS.
As long as your rotation is correct so that you have sufficient threat, tell the WoW player who was saying your damage was low to return to a USA based game.

I don't find it to be an issue since we are tanks and not dps like others have mention. To all those wow players, even in wow we didn't do much dmg as tanks when it comes to solo fight and we only do good dmg when we have 5+ mobs on us. I started out as Pugilist before I switch over to gld since there were so many bad tanks, and the difference in dmg isn't that bad but I went with 2:1 str:dex rather than vit like most so I tend to do more dmg I guess.
When it's just myself and the healer left during boss fights, I'm not thinking about how much damage I'm doing.
There have been so many times where I've timed CDs to survive for an insane amount of time.
Damage < Mitigation
PLD DPS while in Sword Oath is actually quite high. +50 Combat Potency every ~2.5s is the equivelent of 20-40% more damage per skill activation.... similar to the increase in damage per skill activation that WARs get with Maim and Storm's Eye.

Its just on auto-attacks, it doesn't affect skills compared to having neither oath up.
Sword Oath gives you an additional attack with 50 combat potency everytime you auto-attack.
Relic weapon's attack speed is slightly less than 2.5s.
GCD is 2.5s.
Think about it.
Lets say you use a 150 combat potency skill. If you add an additional 50 combat potency around the same time frame, what percentage did your DPS increase by?
Lets say you use a 200 combat potency skill. If you add an additional 50 combat potency around the same time frame, what percentage did your DPS increase by?

Don't forget about Fight or Flight.
Increases physical damage dealt by 30% for a whopping 30 seconds traited.

That's what he said in different words.
AFAIK Auto Attack potentcy is basically 100. It's a little different, because of different weapon speeds, but this works out further into the favor of Sword Oath since Swords have a fast auto attack (when compared to MRD axes, anyway).
So basically if you think of it this way. Through a normal combo of 10 seconds you get 4 skills and 4 white hits. The paladin combo has an average potentcy of ~200, so to simplify let's say you get 200 potency per hit of your skills, and 100 per auto attack.
Without sword oath you do 1200 potency worth of damage.
With sword oath you do 1400 potency worth of damage.
It's not quite the same as rolling maim, but it's an appreciable increase in damage (around 17% more dps). When compared with shield oath you also lose the 25% damage penalty, so a paladin in sword oath would be doing significantly higher dps.
A base 100 DPS paladin would be doing 75 in shield oath, and 117 in sword oath, which is over 55% difference.
For paladins on stun duty (i.e. HM Ifrit) it is definitely worth it to run sword oath.

I don't understand why people keep bringing up damage mitigation. Yes we are tanks and our class is very good at tanking, but sometimes you play with maybe a few friends and don't need to spam massive hate combos like you would in a larger group. Since we have lost the ability to feasibly keep ourselves healed it would be nice to bring our damage up a tad bit. There are plenty of other games where the tanks have less dps than DD's which is to be expected, but at least do their own share of damage.
Solo PLD gets a burst of damage from fight or flight and possibly sword oath if you auto attack a lot. That's it, since our str and weapons are pretty weak unless you purposely stat for solo play going str/dex. But that's not really feasible when you also run group events. But like one individual said, maybe if we got spirits within and circle of scorn earlier it wouldn't be as bad.
So for the idiots that have very low reading comprehension. DON'T WANT TO BE HIGHEST DPS, BUT DON'T WANT TO BE THE WORST BY A LONG SHOT. Say that to yourself in the best retard voice possible which for some of you will be your regular voice.
