Despite what people have been theorizing. I've talked with a few people who are doing bahamut turns.
Right now DPS on those fights are: SMN>Bard>BLM>MNK>DRG
Fights heavily favor ranged classes. SMN has the highest sustained dps and dots continue to tick even when the bosses move out of site.
Fights in this game are very active, it hurts melee dps a lot. MNK's scale very hard with gear thanks to their numerous self buffs. Dragoons have high burst but not sustain whatsoever and rely on position locking themselves with timed jumps to keep up.
When stars align (able to keep greased lighting up all time) MNK is highest DPS but landslide.
Problem is that the stars rarely align. WTB shorter cooldown shoulder tackle that refreshes greased lighting (instead of stun), or a skill that refrese greased lighting w/o needing target or attack
However Monks have a huge plus. % based skills. I saw a huge jump when upgrading from white weapon to garuda weapon. REALLY HUGE JUMP IN DPS
Even from ifrit to Garuda there is a huge jump in dps. Should have my relic today also and I assume that's an equally large jump in dps gain also.
MNK is the highest single-target DPS job for sure. However, like others have mentioned, it is a much more attention intensive job and so much easier to make mistakes on. A good MNK will be amazing, but you won't find many of those on DF or around much at all.
When you do come across someone with a deep understanding of the job and who plays it well though, you're in for a treat.
This pretty much it. However playing a monk is extremely difficult and sometimes boss encounters will drive you mad due to the nature of the encounters (freaking mobs that look the same front and back >_>)MNK is the highest single-target DPS job for sure. I disagree with what the post says about BRD - They are not uber squishy or die fast. They have a huge rotation of tankish cds they can pull from pugilist if needed the repelling shot means you should only get hit 1 time... in most instances if you get 1 shot everyother class would as well. They have silence which i have found so useful as a lot of bosses that can't be stunned for an interrupt can in fact be hit with the silence and finally the bind if it hits its all you need with your speed and damage while moving its the perfect way to open a gap.
The true end all be all of why BRD is the best, they have healer limit Break. Life Pulse is so broken and if your healers go down the bard can bring the whole group right back into it at full everything. They also have songs which are amazing.
The fact that they have that means every group of 8 or more should have a BRD. No matter what and 2 would be the best for dual songs.
That silence is amazing...tell your monks to perform their silence move and they will go nuts on you. They already have enough on their plate lol
Look at the targeting circle not the mob. Open space on circle = back, lines = flank, arrow = front. I never look at the mob when dpsing, bounce between mob debuff window (and cast bar) and targeting circle.
