I find HQ items to be worth crafting. Rather than willingly accepting gear from quests, I prefer to accept coins and then go and make my own HQ gear with significantly better stats. Even now, my first page of inventory is full of HQ gear for my next few levels.
Edit: And yes, I know that's what the armoury chest is for, but I'm forgetful and easily lose things in there, so until it's on my official gearsets it stays in my inventory ;P

Completely and utterly not true. A same-level HQ crafted piece with appropriate materia is noticeably better than anything you will get from a quest or dungeon drop, with the exception of top-end stuff.
